I have a prescott 3.0E running on a plain IC7 and the EQ software shows my cpu temp as around mid 30's C idle but when I go into bios and look at it, it shows it somewhere around high 50's. when I boot, it shows high 50's for a few seconds then goes down to mid 30's. mobo monitor 5 shows the same thing using winbond 2 2n3904 sensor.

is this normal? from what ive read about temps with this cpu, it seems low. I have a thermaltake volcano 7+ hs/f on it with artic silver, not oc'd.....yet.

thanks in advance!

those readings are dead "as in the cpu gettin fried" wrong
what the bios reports is acurate you can compensate by adding hower many degrees diff in mbm
do you have good caseflow and if the board is new i would exchange it for another

thats interesting so my mobile barton must run lower than room temp at idle 34 - 10 = 24 which is lower than the room temp. im not so sure maybe it is a p4 thing?

You run a mobile Barton in a socket 478 motherboard? Wow, that's impressive!

You cannot compare the results of the IC7 with another Abit motherboard for AMD Athlon's...

Also, think about it - no CPU can run at lower than room temperature on any kind of retail mass-market CPU air cooling solution (think I got my @ss covered from all the smarty-pantses in here ).

Prometeia/LN2/dry ice/etc of course, can go (sometimes far) below 0C, but air cooling cannot drop the die of a running Athlon/P4 below room temperature (or case temperature).

This is a Abit IC7 vs Asus P4C800 temp reading issue. It has nothing to do with other boards such as your NF7-s that you are running with the Mobile Barton. I do have both the IC7 and P4C800 boards that do reflect the same temp variations as is shown in the review link.

its actually not in a case, all sitting on a desktop. why should I exchange it?

thats an interesting article, so the eq software isnt accurate then. it shows the same thing mbm does. bios shows temp as high 50's.

It is actually not the software but the way the boards are setup to read the sensor chips in the bios. For comparison my IC7 reads the cpu temp at about 53C with ambiant of 22C. On my P4C800 it reads the cpu temp at 40C. The temps I quoted are both under full load 100% cpu usage running SoB 24/7 air cooled.
