IC7 wont post or beep - did i blow up my cpu or mobo ???

silly question and a bit embarrassed to ask really ;-)

just set up my ic7, plugged in one stick of ram , g/x card ( both verified working from previous system) and cpu, nothing else, got the green led indicator when power supply set to on, and the red led flashed on the mobo when i pressed the on button, but all this thing does is makes the fans spin a bit then nothing....is there a failsafe or jumper thingy i may have overlooked? is it possible i may have blown up my cpu? I definetly dont hear a beep, not a sound....

oh yes and i already reset the cmos....

Update - Booted with as little as possible, tried both ram sticks, one ram stick, no ram sticks even! Still the same results - fans spin up, nothing on screen - then they all die. No beeps, just a tormenting amber led on the motherboard (and green when it's on - when it manages to stay on more than 5 seconds that is....

UGH!!

want to help me too? i dont have a cpu installed, but i would really like to see the POST screen or at least hear a beep from the mobo.

ok partial success - i took out the mobo, ps alone in the mobo tray, put it on the table and stuck in the cpu. Stuck my screwdriver between the pins for power switch, and now i can get all the fans, cpu fan, northbridge fan, and system fan whirring away. I left it for 5 mins but still didnt hear a 'beep' to let me know the 'post was reached.

Silly question, if it doesnt 'beep' but fans are powered ok, does it mean my cpu could be dead?

hurrah! 16 hours of testing later - success!

Wanted to thank eveyone who responded to this plea for help, thanks so much for all your suggestions.

The gremlin at fault wasnt cpu or mobo as assumed, it was the power supply. It was the last thing I hadnt tested so i put a pals antec trupower 400W in, and not only did the CPU beep and post 3GHZ!! HURRAH, but at last i can breath a sigh of relief and FINALLY start to o/c!!

To anyone who has followed this thread, I make an admission. Regardless of how many pc's Ive built in the past, from 300a's@ 450 onwards, its so easy to forget the basics in a rush of enthusiam with a haul of new parts. In my arrogance to assume the enermax 465 couldnt go wrong - I was wrong. I was humbled and delighted. Delighted that it wasnt my £300+ cpu or expensive 1GB of pc4000 ram, humbled that it was something so basic, i handt questioned it.

Now Im on the market for a reliable power supply to last me at least 3 years and one id be willing to make a sizeable investment. Maybe the antec or something similar.
