Bumping this dead thread because I am going to participate in the Sebago Ice Fishing Derby this weekend. Three days of sitting, drinking, fishing, and sleeping on the ice. Going to be good times. Maybe I'll get lucky and snag a monstah lake trout, as the tourney has some pretty good prizes.
It seems that at least some of you are experienced ice fisherman. Got any tips for rigging/jigging for lake trout? Right now I have the following gear:
1 medium weight jigging rod with direct drive reel (looks like a lightweight fly reel). Reel is loaded with 10lb mono.
3 tip up ice fishing traps.
Lures:
Size 2, 3, and 6 glow in the dark swedish pimple
Green and yellow Rapala Rap
Silver/gold (1/8) and green/silver (5/16) slender spoon
Baits:
Live shiners
"Gulp" dough
And yes, I will be wearing my boots this time.
