Who knows? With global warming Iceland may be a garden spot in 30 years.
I gotta get my bid in.

Absolutely awesome!

He accepts money orders and certified cheques. If only I could have my friend Howgul Abul Arhu send me that $47.5M he says is waiting for me in that Nigerian bank account...I'd have enough for the down payment!

Well, Iceland is in serious trouble, if their stockmarket crashes when it opens on Monday the Icelandic goverment might have to do something drastic because they won't have any money left, not even for day-to-day business.
It is a nation with 300 000 people with a -now nationalized- banking system that is in serious debt, something like 5 times their GDP. They might have to e.g. turn to Norway for help, but the question is then what the Norwegian government will ask for in return; they would after all effectively own Iceland.

None is struggling more than Iceland, whose economic fall has been even more rapid than its spectacular rise. Deregulation and a 1990s stock market boom fueled the rapid growth of Iceland's banking sector, which came to dwarf the rest of the economy and provided financing for deals that snapped up businesses around the world. When global liquidity markets dried up, the banks struggled to refinance their heavy debts. Now Icelanders are watching helplessly as their economy implodes. The government has seized control of the country's top three banks; it started then abandoned an attempt to fix the value of Iceland's currency, the krona; and it closed the stock market until next week.

Has Iceland finished the huge dam project that was designed to provide cheap electricity to turn Iceland into a major aluminum producer? (I saw the documentary on National Geographic channel, I think)
Interestingly, Iceland has a real advantage since they get most of their heat from undergrund thermal sources.

No, not yet. 2009 supposedly although that was obviously before this crisis. The project was projected to cost EU 1 billion so who knows what will happen now. Link

Yeah, something like 25% of electricity is geothermal and over 80% of heating/hot water; too bad it makes everything smell like sulphur
