Icq banner messages

HI guys, hope this isn't the wrong place to ask this, but these darn ad banners just started appearing 2 days ago on every icq message I send or receieve....Why?? and How do I stop it??

You can stop it by change this in your register(or how do you call it?)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mirabilis\ICQ\DefaultPrefs -->then put Autoupdate on "no".

Smartie's suggestion is good as long as it hasn't affected you, if the banner already shows you might want to delete or rename the following .dll's on the ProgramFiles/ICQ directory:

icqateima32.dll
icqateimg32.dll
icqateres.dll

The upside is the banners are gone, the downside is the banner area is still there and on it is just blank gray with a "ICQAteBrowser Version 1.0" text.

But hey, anything to get rid of annoying banners. <g>

I use an older client. I'm currently using 99a, which was made before the ads started. It also has less crap built in, although it isn't as clean as the really old versions.

I have 99a V 2.22 and I can say it's pretty much flawless.
I've burned this install onto a CD so I won't lose it, I've been thru many fresh formats always coming out with 99a... it is the best if you ask me!
no stupid ads or anything dumb at all.. it's x-cellent.

So far the issue of the banner box has not been solved, we can get rid of the ads but the box stays. Check the technical suport forum, theres a good thread on this subject there.
