ICS Problem; can't figure it out

I have ICS setup and my computer (the host) is working perfectly but the one that is hooked up to me (the client) barely works. It can get onto AIM, but very slowly, I can get an IP address (very slowly) but it wont open up any pages on the net. I have a 50ft Cat5 cable running between the two computers. I'm pretty sure it's a cross-over because that is what is said on the label of the cable bag. But if it weren't a crossover, are these the symptons I would see, or are there other reasons why it's doing this?

Update: I just had the client computer ping yahoo and I got a 25% loss. The ms are higher than usual and inconsistent. The Host is fine as it should be.

If it were not a cross over, it wouldn't work at all...

My 10 cents would be cable lengh or cable itself.....ICS, from what i seen is pretty simple to set up, so i don't think thats the issue....

hmmm first id make sure i had the latest nic drivers for each machine... if your still getting a PL problem, Id try to get my hands on another cable to test with. The cable length shouldnt be a problem at 50 feet, it can go much longer, if its really to cover a distance.... but the cable might just have a slight break somewhere, or bad insulation is causing some type of cross-talk if its all coiled up.


also... what OS is each machine running? i know a few have ICS and other patches that help out.

I'd say the cable is probably bad. try another cable. 50' is nowhere near the max llenght so that should not be an issue. since the host has a connection without issue it is between the 2 local machines. It is possible the host is dumping packets but unlikely. so that only leaves the NICs adn the cable.
