ICS won't work with 98 as server and XP as client?!?!?

I have someone who has sattelite, and she bought a 4 port wireless router, but the sattelite output is only USB and not ethernet, so she can't even use the routher. Well her computer is running 98 (she needs DOS for things she does) and when we try and hook the router up as a hub, the 98 machine always says "internet connection sharing disabled, other machines on the network must not have internet connection sharing installed" Or something to that effect. Anyway, I see no way to remove ICS from XP, (the client machine is XP), and I am toatally stuck. Any clues?

I have not dealt with ICS between Win9x and Win2K/XP systems, but I would think that ICS could be done between them. However, getting them to work as designed is another story.

I'm a little confused about the problem, but here's some info that may help: ICS in Win98 requires that you install some files on the client, I suspect that because of this WinXP is somewhat incompatible(perhaps someone knows a work around). Anyway, it would be simpler to use the WinXP PC to be server and Win98 as Client, or install WinXP on the Win98 PC.

That's precisely the problem, each computer is in the location it needs to be, and the Win98 machine is by the sattelite modem, and the lady is completely unwilling to part with Win98 because she needs DOS.

I had the exact same problem before... the only solution was to use a different ICS program. (Ex WinRoute)

Windows 98 doesn't have internet connection sharing built into it, so there's no way that can work.

I've used Sygate to accomplish this with Win98.

Windows 98 Second Edition most definately does have ICS built into it.

I'm running a setup where a 98se box is the ICS server. My comp runs XP. My dad's runs XP, the otehr computers run 98 (mix of SE and "non-se"). We have no problems. I just set my XP box to use DHCP and it boots and grabs an IP.

No it doesn't help at all because it says what I allready know.....that ICS has to be installed only on the 98 computer, yet ICS cannot be uninstalled from XP. Basically I don't think a 98 machine can be made a host for ICS with XP clients at all no matter what you do.
