id Software’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Robert Duffy was featured in a video interview on AMD’s YouTube channel, speaking about the new Ryzen CPU architecture.

"Definitively optimize for ryzen" (no wonder as its probably in next consoles)

I guess dice is doing the same.
People should really save up for those cheap 8c r7.
Completely stupid to buy less cores now when this cheap 8c stuff is available.

Interesting, I wonder what John Carmack thinks about this Good news for sure, as it will also help utilize Intel HEDT platforms more as well. Optimization for more cores is definitely good.

A lot of people talk about parallelism in game engines as if they have already hit the limits of Amdahl's law. I'm continualy disappointed that game engine developers haven't put enough effort in to prove them wrong yet, but maybe id will do it this time, Carmack or not.

Well now that you can actually buy 6 and 8 core CPUs that don't cast an arm, a leg and a kidney, more people are going to be buying them. So it makes more sense for game developers to optimize for them.

By sticking with 4 cores for the mainstream, Intel were not only holding back the evolution of hardware, but also the evolution of software. Basically the entire industry was held hostage by their monopoly.

Dan Baker said 3.5 years ago we would get rid of the main thread in games in a mantle q&a. Much to the surprice of Johan from Dice.

This year he gave a small glimpse of it in his new game model that will be used in the upcoming engine. Darn interesting stuff for sure. A radical shift in thinking.
