IDE controller problem.

I recently got this problem with an ide card that i got. I used this card on my old Athlon xp build no problem. However, I recetnly rebuild myself a Core 2 Duo system and I moved this card along with my dvd drive and my 2 seagate hdd to ym new system and I bought a Third 160 gig eide hdd Free after rebate. Since I Connect bopth ym dvd rom and dvd burner and 2 hdd to on board ide slot already, I connect the Western Digitial to the ide card. Then the problem started. Whenever I try to move data file to the western digital while it is connected to the IDE controller card, it freeze up. I check everything, then I decide to plug the other onboard ide onto the Western Digitial, it work. What do you think the problem is?

If my ide card is really busted, what are my alternative? I also would plan to upgtade from my asrock mobo, so it is very liekly the new board will only have 1 ide slot. Am I better off buying a new ide crad or buy those IDE top sata converter for my hdd?

debug by trying the ide adapter in different configuration or try a different IDE cable
or get an ide card used in the for sale forum cheap

Just curious, who makes the IDE controller? I once had very strange issues with a WD HD, a Promise card and an old IBM Netvista machine. In my case, the mouse (computer) would freeze very briefly ~ every six seconds like clockwork.

Promise tech support let me use beta drivers etc, but they never knew what the issue was. One thing I did notice about WD drives years later is that they don't do as well with heat as other drives. You could always flip the drive over and look for "pock marks" (like something where it bubbled, burst and left dried markings). I've tested failing drives with this issue and even the WD manufacturer tools (Date Lifeguard?) don't see an issue.
