PC Liquidator has IDE Pullout trays for $5 and you can get 2 for $9

I picked up a pair at the store and they were a no brainer. I don't recommend them for higher speed drives because they don't have a fan internal, but it worked great for the family PC! Now I have a drive for the kids that they can destroy with thier games and not screw up my data.

I need one of these. Hell, I'm even willing to pay the $6 shipping. But are they ATA100? The shotty website says "ATA" but I don't know if that's ATA33 or what. Does yours have an 80 pin cable?

I don't think they are ATA-66, only ATA-33. They have a 40 pin cable inside the case. Still it worked for my needs and a good price if you need a simple swapout for multiple drives and/or operating systems.

They have ata-66 ones further down the page for 11.99. Since ata-66 and ata-100 use the same cable it is probably ata-100 compatible.

CompGeeks has ATA/66 Mobile Racks w/out fan for $5.95 here and ATA/66 Mobile Racks with fan for $7.49 here. I have five of the ones with fans and they definitely are ATA/100 compatible.

Oldpro - can you comment on the fans? Noise, size, if they duct in and out via the faceplate or if they interact with case air. Pic on the geek page doesn't show or tell these things. Thanks

Oh, did look on the genica page, no info.

danny,
He was giving some free info on software to allow windows to hot swap drives using the removable enclosure. The software saves you from having to reboot every time you want to put a different drive in. If you get one of these removable enclosures then I HIGHLY recommend that software (unless of course you have lots of time to waste and enjoy waiting for a reboot)

McCarthy, I got two of those enclosures from CompGeeks that he's talking about. I had another bay cooler before, and the fans were louder than any others in my case. But these are nice...very quiet. I have to take the side panel off to hear 'em at all. I was hoping they wouldn't be loud, and was pleasantly surprised. Good stuff I say. BTW, the fan is near the back of the enclosure, where the IDE cable and power cable connect; acts as an exhaust fan for the enclosure.

If you have a computer show nearby, I think the price in computer show is about the same. I got 2 ATA100 mobile rack with fan at Tustin ACP show for $10 2 month ago, that is cheaper if you include the shipping. I think the next one I will get is the one made by metal I think it is batter for high speed HD.

damn these things can be had for that cheap. i paid 25 bucks for some some non aluminum metal one with one fan at some local mom and pop chinese computer store. that thing sucked big time, when i yank the tray out its always scorching hot. Being the reckless person that i am, when i swapped hard drives with it i yanked the cable too much and it broke. So i wasted more cash and bought another mobile rack and this time i spent 35 bucks at another mom and pop chinese store. the one pictured here http://www.coolerstar.com/moblieracktp20.html . this one is pretty good though. WHen i pull out the hard drive from the tray after hours of use, its not even warm. I have a western digital 7200 ata 100 30 gig drive which runs pretty hot but for some reason testing it on sisandra benchmark it runs much slower than an ata 66 7200 rpm drive. Its not the rack, i've tested the drive connected directly with my motherboard (asus av7 kt133) and get the same result. but anyway if anyone knows where i can purchase trays for this device cheaply , you will certainly make my day. thanks.
