IDE RAID on DFI Lanparty Pro875

I have the Lanparty Pro875.
I'm building my computer from scratch and I'm confused with it's IDE RAID. I don't want to actually use RAID, mirroring drives or making them as one. I just want to use the RAID IDE slots that the motherboard comes with, because they are ATA 133 instead of ATA 100. First of all is this even possible? Worth it? If so, how do I install my 2 hard drives onto the IDE RAID slots (which connections go where, how to set the hard drive that my Operating System boots from, and most importantly how to clean install Win XP Pro onto that boot drive)?

Check your manual. There is probably a CMOS setting to enable/disable RAID. If it is disabled, you should be able to use the other IDE slots as additional drive channels.

Do you think I still have to install the Highpoint RAID drivers to have them work like that?

Yes it is not a problem to do what you want, which is use the RAID slots as JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks) which the Highpoint does support. Yes you have to install the drivers. If you only have 2 drives I would recomend using one drive per cable. And you can install XP on one of the drives, just make sure you have the Highpoint floppy when you start the windows setup when it asks if you have a 3rd party SCSI driver. then you will be able to select the drive you want to install Windows. Its not as confusing as it sounds, and the manuals that come with the Mobo do explain it a bit better than I can. But I am doing what you want to do, so i know it does work.

the I875B and I865PE are both great boards.

my I875B LanParty:

2.4C
2x256MB BUffalo PC4300 Hynix
WD Raptor 36.7GB 10k RPM SATA
Audigy sound
Thermalright SLK-947U + Enernmax 92mm adjustable
MSI 52x24x52 Dragonwriter CD-RW
BBATI Radeon 9700P

301FSB 5:4 @ 3.66Ghz, 8-4-4-2.5, 2.9v
cpu - 1.535v
AGP - 1.6v (this helps the chipset voltage as the Intel boards do not have separate chipset voltages like the AMD boards do)

I865PE Infinity (same as LanParty I865PE):

2.8C
2x256 Buffalo PC3700 Micron "C"
80GB Maxtor DX9 8MB cache
160MB Maxtor DX9 8MB cache
Yamaha 8x8x24
GeForce2 MX400 64MB AGP (heh its my server so i dont need Radeons etc)
onboard sound (better than the 875, but still not as good as Audigy or onboard NF2 Soundstorm)

220x14 1:1 8-3-3-2.5 1.525vcore

the I875B is a monster. The 865 is too, but i just have not had time to really play with it =/

anyway...you may use the IDE channels for reg hdd (non-RAID). you must install the RAID drivers that control the chip though, just don't enable the RAID function itself.

as for U100 vs U133...there's not much difference there. You will not find any PATA IDE drives that take full advantage of the U133...they perform on par with U100 still (same is true for SATA, no SATA as of yet takes advantage of the 150 because most SATA's are still tied to the PCI bus, which is limited to 133). The major difference in SATA with drives like Raptors is not the speed, but the access/seek times =)

I want to do the same thing but I have already installed XP so now how do I install the HighPoint Raid drivers so I can use those IDE channels also?
