That whole silly armripping debacle raised a simple question for me - if you're able to train in any (real) style, what would it be?

If you're not sure about any of the styles/Don't know much about specific styles but have a general clue, let me give you a basic premise to work with:

1.Internal/External

2.Kicking/Punching/Joints/Grappling/Weapons

3.Practical/Enlightenment/Competition

So Wing Tsun would be Internal-Punching-Practical since its power theory is based on internal systems, it's mostly in the punching range (even though it covers all ranges), and it's geared toward practical usage.

BTW, nothing silly like stuff from DBZ, or Video Games please - I'm genuinely curious.

Movie: Everybody was Kung-Fu fighting~

Seriously, it would be Muy Thai.

Actually, I would consder Muay thai = Kick-Yo-Ass Style.

That style is badass. (A shame most fighters in Thailand retire by the age of 25 due to severe arthritis)

For 'fun' (as in sparring and competition), i like kickboxing and jujitsu.

For classroom practicing, i like kickboxing and kung fu.

For fighting, kung fu.

I also like the forms/kata of kung fu... mostly trained in Northern Shaolin, but i've taken some Southern Shaolin as well.

There is no one ideal martial art. To each their own, and the combatants shall never cease their endless prattling.

But yeah, from what I've heard, Swedish Elite Combat Force Arm-Ripping is pretty good.

I'll throw in 2 votes:

For general fighting: Marine Corps martial arts

For enlightenment/competition/weapons: I second the vote for wushu by meanmeosh

Mixed martial arts is the most lethal combination. It's known as the dicipline of diciplines.

Just because you take a martial art doesn't mean you're always aggressive. When i have kids, i will definitely get them into some sort of martial arts... not only for self-defense, but also as a sport, to help with self-esteem, and to keep them busy. It's a fun activity. Those who take up martial arts for fighting don't usually stay long, because they realize that they can't become an ultimate fighter in one month, so they give up. It's those who enjoy the activity itself that stays in it for the long run.

I don't know but modified Wing Chun is one great style.. I think hitting someone internal will be the most efficient way to get someone kill

The art of the crotch shot... Bruce Lee style... that would fall under a mixture of modded Wing Chun, various Shaolin, Har-Qigong, Tai Chi and etcetcetc. Basically bringing chi manipulation and concentration techniques with the physical without the need for constant hard/shock blocks. You can even add a bit of grappling with Chin-Na, Judo, or whatnot.

Then again, Lee's "intercepting fist" concept is very practical. I used it well in the few times I've gotten into a fight or had a punch thrown at me. No need for internal crap. If they're trying to punch you... a quick hit to their crotch or shin or ribs or face or what-have-you will generally stop them dead.
