I have a Duron system (Epox 8KTA+, 700@800mhz, 128MB PC-133 Micron, 20 gig Maxtor, ATI Expert 2000 AGP, HP8250i, 32X CD, 56K winmodem) and every so often when I boot up, it'll display my wallpaper, the cursor and then hang. No icons or taskbar show up. I reset the computer and it boots fine.
My girlfriend has a similar system (8KTA+ 750mhz, 128MB PC-100, Graphics Blaster Exxtreme PCI, 32X CD, 52X CD, 8.4 Gig HD, no modem, same case as mine, both comps running Windows 98 FE) and she has the identical problem. I built both systems. I'm thinking that maybe something isn't set right in the BIOS or...the other possibility...the computers are networked together with Linksys NICs. I've thought that it might have something to do with our computers trying to locate each other on the network, causing them to hang. The network works fine. But I'm no expert when it comes to networks.
The computers work fine. The only problem is this occasional problem of them hanging on boot-up. Anybody seen this problem before? Any suggestions how I can correct it? THanks.
