but considering it took intel 3 years to beat the A64 thats testiment enough to its design. hopefully AMD has something in the works for next year to one up Intel (doubt AM2 will be enough but will close the field to the point where they will still be competive one a cost bases)

I'm having trouble swallowing those Conroe benchmarks, especially the F.E.A.R. one, Conroe is just ripping apart the higher clocked FX. However, it'll be interesting to see how AMD can combat this...if these benchmarks are real (they seem real at this point) it will be quite the uphill battle for AMD. Nonetheless, I always take price vs performance way more seriously than performance alone so I'm wondering how much these Conroe processors will cost.

About damn time, intel. This is what Yonah should have been. If vista can boot on macs a quad core woodcrest would be amazing in every aspect come this fall/winter. Unfortunately now I have to tide myself over until these cpus come out, but with what!?

most likely ill stick with AMD still just because they are usually cheaper... you know?
AM2 will likely come and go pretty fast and the new artitechture will rip right on in before you know it, hopefully on same socket AM2

remmeber sock 754 didnt last that long compared to 939....... i bet AM2 wont be enough, but still decent increase over 939... if those benches of conroe are true , its most likely the higest end of course as compared to FX60, SO thus saying that ... i dont expect a good perfomance to price ratio between the rest of the pack (im interested in low/mid)

Wow indeed. I thought Intel was becoming something like a government agency, too big for it's own good.

I was planning on a new dual core opteron system but definately going to have to wait to see if AMD can beat them by 6 months time and if not, snag me one.

I didnt notice that the FX60 was overclocked to 2.8 as well.

Im ready to jump ship to intel as soon as i can afford it ive been meaning to go dual core anyway because i do a lot of video encoding.

Well AT said that the Extreme Edition Conroe will most likely be clocked at around 3ghz, while the one shown here is at 2.66 ghz. So these benches aren't referring to the highest end, that's why I'm so curious as to how much these perhaps "mid-range" 2.66 ghz Conroe will cost.

EDIT: I missed the post where pricing was posted, hmm... it didn't mention any 3.0ghz Conroe but the 2.66 ghz one has a list price of about $530, which is an amazing price considering its performance.

Everybody warned that AMD was not pushing its advantage hard enough, especially the INQ. Now looks like they are going to get stomped w/o much of an answer for a while.


AMD = incredibly stupid. FOr 3 years we've gotten a few speed bumps and other slight modifications. If they have something up their sleeve they should show it now.

Those benchmarks lack a certain plausibility. Something smells very rotten. Wait until Anand gets his own system he can play with more than an hour and take apart/check the system clock.
