Anyone see a follow-up to this? What I read was that the thief got away. Sounded like there was a crash, so damage to the truck, but the car drove away?? How'd the guy on the hood manage not to get hurt? Did they manage to get a license plate number?

That's what would a smart person do, write down license plate and call the police, they would have him in matter of minutes. Let alone the video footage, would serve as convicting material in case dude would throw away stolen thing.
We had several threads about stealing here lately and it always gets down to same thing over and over again, someone steals something and people around will just go nuts and shit just to kill the guy or beat the shit out of him, creating damages of various kind way over the value of stolen thing. I just can't get over the feeling that people just have the need to retaliate wherever they get a chance.
Guys literally will never get insurance refund on their damaged truck, they will also pay for thief's car damage(not sure if any injuries were caused to any of the involved) and will probably get their driving licenses suspended, in that short period of time seen on video, they did like 5 severe traffic violations, If you are construction worker and you are banned from driving, you are literally banned from your career, you can't do the job, period. Was not worth it to jeopardize your life because someone stole something you can replace with more or less, not much effort, will never get to understand that sort of thinking.
I think I read that the guy grabbed a $1200 saw.
Ah, I thought it's a pipe or something.

The ghetto had been so picked clean of valuable things that a thief ventured out to where rich people live, it must be a sign of the times.

All the more reason not to mess with the idiots. It's just not worth it. If someone comes into Cameraseverywhererichville, parks his car in the middle of the street, doesn't bother to conceal his face, and steals a TOOL from a CONSTRUCTION SITE in broad daylight...that person is stupid / psychotic / on PCP / armed / backed up by three equally retarded cousins / working for organized crime.

Don't stick your fist in crazy.

Wow, can't believe the guy on the hood was not shot or being ran over.

He was lucky.

Don't mess with construction workers' tools I'm pretty sure all the ones I know would do something similar, and I know a lot of them. We do some work at SMU which is right around the corner I will make sure this video goes into our next meeting to show just how quickly someone can steal your stuff.

I dunno about youtube but I bet you wouldn't have the house you live in if we didn't. The old timers were beasts they did it without power tools and drank beer all day while doing it.

No. They didn't. But you go ahead and try. Could you just sign this organ donation form first, though?

Stealing someone's bike, jewelry, video game system, etc is one thing, but stealing someone's livelyhood by stealing tools they use to make a living is another story. That kinda shit happened to my brother in law. He was parked at Home Depot for 5 minutes to run in and get some stuff for work, and he had his trailer on his truck with his $12k lawn mower and a bunch of his other tools. While he was in there 2 guys cut the trailer off and were taking off with it by the time he got out there.

Fuck that guy and I hope he rots in jail for a while over it so next time he will think about doing that shit again.

I can appreciate wanting to get back at those that wrong us immediately after the fact, but this guy jeopardized his life by going after the thief. If I were him I would have called the police and let them handle it because they're trained for dealing with these kinds of situations. Involving yourself to this extreme only increases the odds of someone getting hurt.

Guess what the police did in my brother in laws situation? Absolutely nothing. And they also did nothing after my brother in law saw guy with his trailer driving on the highway, took his license plate, followed him to his home and got his address, and went back to the police.

Judging by the video, that looked like a pretty upscale neighborhood. I'm pretty sure the Police would have given a shit. The video is just the icing on the cake.

It is a nice neighborhood. The police do give a shit. That doesn't change the fact that they still haven't found the guy. The cost/benefit ratio isn't going to lead to a lot of work being put on a $1,200 theft from people that are most likely not residents of that neighborhood. Those workers will never get that tool back and losing that tool could very well mean the difference between being able to feed your family that week or not.

My CRS got her van stolen. The short story, it was found in this guy's front yard, all of the contents on his front porch. The "deputy" said there was no proof he was the one that stole it and took the stuff out. Lazy P.O.S. Pretty sure if it were a fellow officers or the mayors, he would have been arrested.

Had someone steal one of our work vehicles off our facility in the middle of the night. I had video surveillance of him driving off with the truck, but it was too dark to see the guys face. Police found him napping in the vehicle a few miles down the road.

Sad part is; they didn't charge him with the theft. Cops couldn't see his face on the video. His excuse: he found the car unlocked and needed a place to crash. Apparently, the guy was homeless. They did charge him with breaking and entering a house in the same neighborhood though, so he did eventually go to jail.

Yeah they did ask any old timer. I've worked construction for 15 years and heard the same story from multiple old guys over the years that they used to drink at work all the time. I've also found my share of old beer cans buried in walls and ceilings. Up until the 70s or so it was common for the boss to bring a case of beer with lunch. It was a hold over from the 1800s when everyone drank beer and wine instead of water since water wasn't always safe because of bacteria.

If you think you can't work and drink your mistaken. On one of the crews I work with the one guys always drunk at work. I've done it a handful of times myself over the years. Hell I did major mechanic work to my truck half drunk the other weekend.

Are you sure it was your truck?

Better be I gave a guy 5k cash for her. Couple years ago I got a little excited and broke my driveshaft. I almost always got a cold beer in my hand and a wrench in the other when I'm working on my ol girl, other than that little incident its all good. For all we know I would of broke that driveshaft sober.
