IE 6.0 hanging!

Sometime back I wiped my system clean and installed Win98SE w/ IE 5.0 and promptly upgraded to IE6.0. Ever since installing IE6.0 my internet surfing pretty much sucks due to constant hanging, freezing and lockups. When it hangs while loading web pages the mouse is unusable, Winamp quits and I'm pretty much dead in the water until it decides to work properly. I'm on a 56K ISP and connect at 53,333 or 50,666. My friend was also having similar problems with 6.0 on DSL. He f/disked and went back to IE5.5 and his problems went away.

Do any of you have similar problems with IE6.0?? Is there a fix or patch? Can I uninstall IE6.0 and go back to IE 5.5 without having problems? I should probably do a clean install of 98SE w/ IE5.5 but I don't have the time to mess with it right now.

I was thinking of installing XP Pro but that comes w/ IE6.0 too and I might end up with the same problems but I can't believe everybody w/ 6.0 is experiencing the same problems I am.

Help/advice please???

i've had some probs with ie6.. haev always had a good stable browsing experience with ie5.0 (not 5.5) .. would recommend you format and use just ie5.0

I upgrade from 5.5 to 6 and had freezes as well....a .5v bump in CPU voltage solved that.

I had the same problem until I used *gulp* Windows Update and got the latest patches. It was shortly after I had those problems that I upgraded to WinXP and haven't had a problem yet (knock on wood).
