has anyone else noticed that when you are using google search results, the webpage controls your arrow keys..? even if you click on the scroll bar or the title bar... you still scroll through the google results.
doesnt that mean they are attaching to your keyboard?
wouldnt that be a pretty big deal?

First of all, I get the same result in other browsers.

Secondly, your keyboard input is being used by the webpage, how is that a big deal?

They know that you're pressing your arrow keys? So does every other webpage. I'm confused as to what your exact problem is.

They know it only if the focus is on the browser window with that page of course. They can't intercept keystrokes you make in another application or webpage.

Javascript has been able to intercept virtually all keystrokes when your browser has focus for a long time. How do you think Gmail's keyboard shortcuts work?

no wonder why everyone wants to tap into java then...
I just dont get how it's not a big deal that your keystrokes can be logged by internet based software.

It's Javascript, not java. And if you want the websites to work you have to give them some information, in this case that involves keyboard shortcuts.

That's paranoia taken to an absurd level. If you do not want to give the websites you are visiting information, how exactly do you want to interact with them?

It only captures keystrokes that you type while on that webpage. Its not like you're going to go to a Google web page and randomly start typing in a bunch of personal information.

You're willing to perform searches for god knows what on google, letting them know all of you interests, plans, perversions, etc., but them knowing that you're pressing the down arrow key is where you draw the line?

A) Does anyone know if the javascript is sending back arrow key data, or if it's just used by the javascript for moving the little arrow next to the search results?
B) Use a mouse.
C) You're tin foil hat is too tight and appears to be cutting off circulation to your brain.

i'd like for this, my thread, to contain positive discussion only. anyone else care to share their thoughts?

So little responses because its not really an interesting question and its something that most people who post here already know.

No offense. I'm glad you asked and learned about it.
