IE favorites custom icons dissappearing...

You know how the favorites in IE somtimes have custom icons depending on the website...for example anandtech. Well all of my custom icons just dissappeared and I'm now left with the standard IE icons....how do I get them back..

I'm in WinXP but this also happened in Win2K WinME and Win98

Anyway to stop the custom icons from disappearing and how to get them back?

I would also be interested to hear the response to this, because this happens to me all the time too. I found how how to create a custom icon for your web site though. It's kind of cool.

funny you should mention it cuz i, too, was just wondering about this myself. i'm using ie6. when i add a favorite that has a custom icon, it lasts for a few days or sometimes a few weeks and then suddenly one day it just reverts to a standard ie icon. seems to be no rhyme or reason for why they change.

but when I tried what it says as the resolution, it doesn't work. ARG.. and I can't even find the file favicon.ico anywhere on my computer

The custon icons will disappear if you clear your history

vespasian - ah...that makes sense! i haven't manually cleared my history in awhile, but it is set at 14 days. thanks for the info!
