Not affected by what? That's not a complete sentence, I don't really know what you're trying to say.

IE favorites aren't stored in the registry, they're simple .htm links stored in the Favorites folder of the user profile. Firefox keeps favorites nested in a single html file buried in the Firefox profile settings in AppData somewhere.

Yes IE Favorites compilation is subject to your latest Registry BackUp.

HINT: IE11 is a piece of **** and full a Ad Mal-ware. I would sooner use IE10 but then there is FF v28 using FP v17.0.0.169. FF v28 doesn't take kindly to later versions of FP nor does newer version of FF take kindly to Add Ons.

In the latest IE??

Im on IE6 and they are stored in the FAVOURITES FOLDER as .HTM links

Why did they move them to the registry?? All that does is add UN-NEEDED BLOAT to the reg... (Its not surprising seeing anything they do now)

Makes it easier for roaming profiles to work in an Enterprise environment.

Uh... We're on IE11. I'm looking at my favorites in the C\Users\<username>\Favorites folder. I just added a bookmark and it instantly showed up in that folder. No registry backups or convoluted compilation involved.

Yes, I just confirmed that. That is where they are stored on my Toshiba laptop with Windows 10 Home 64 Bit ... also if you open IE11 and go to Organize Bookmarks, Properties, it will show the location where the Favorites are being kept. It would have very idiotic of Microsoft to try and put them in the registry.

This

Chromium has finally added a group policy to setup that browser with "enterprise bookmarks" so it also puts them in file format so you can place them in roaming profiles or in mapped/redirected folders.

Thing that really bites about Chromiums GPO's though is 1/2 of them ONLY work if they are on a domain, even basic things like the homepage. That works fine in many environments but in places that have standalone machines such as thinclients or field ops that have no need to be on the domain that really stinks. When challenged on their decisions in the forums the Chrome devs stumble hard.

Geez! Your missing the point. IE Explore is embedded into the registry of the MS OS. It very difficult to erase IE from an MS OS as it's integrated into Windows Explorer. Yes you can import and select HTML Favorites from say FF JDON Bookmarks and organize them in IE but you can NOT keep them organized unless you Reboot to save the Registry or do a 3rd Party Registry BackUp, such as ERUNT, Vs Firefox Bookmarks. Yes IE Bookmark organization is Registry Dependent in Windows.

Ya I suppose I forgot my favourite PLACE HOLDERS are in the registry but the actual favourites ARE IN A FOLDER!! (IE6) -- I dunno if taking the stuff OUT OF THE REG would affect it or not.. (Most likely I would lose how I have them placed (The order) (They would be placed default by windows then (Which would then probably re-create the keys))
