either way, i'll be uptading my ie7 beta2 with this one. and still continue to use firefox the other half of the time.

i love firefox for the adblock plugin, that thing is a godsend. aside from that, it doesn't have anything that ie7 doesn't have (that i use).

That rocks, I did it and did notice a difference, not huge, but it's still pretty cool just the sheer amount of tweaking you can do in Firefox.

Microsoft is going to be sending IE7 as a HIGH PRIORITY update sometime in october, if you don't want it you have to download the IE7 Blocker Toolkit. Don't know how i feel about this, but i suppose you could turn off automatic updates too.

I've been using IE7 beta for a few months now and really like it. I had tried FF inthe past, but never did really like it so I went back to IE. Security is not a concern if you surf on a limited users account.

Anyways, my favorite part about IE7 is the fact that now it keeps a websites own icon in the favorites menu.

Same here. I found it annoying that IE would always reset those individual icons back to the "e" icon.

I am really enjoying the upgrade from IE6. I like IE a lot better than FireFox as some sites don't seem to work properly with it.

It's also quite a bit faster than IE6 as well and the fixed favicon issue is a blessing as well as the 'Shrink to fit' print option.

FAST includes all the things I need without adding extentions and had a lot of them long before Firefox.

I have only run across a few sites that don't render properly. Gotta get those web developers off of the MS KoolAid (TM) and make them learn to code properly.

Been using IE7 beta for months, it crashes too often. Try opening up 6 or 7 tabs and soon after you get the "internet explorer has encounted a problem" and it closes.

Firefox vs IE, I wouls say Firefox for these reasons:
* much better download manager tool
* allows the bookmarks to be placed differeently
* has smart bookmarking
* doesnt crash-stable!
* better search/find feature
* plugins for everything
* cleans up cached files a lot quicker than IE

The only time I use the Evil IE is for windows updates. Too bad it cant be removed forever.

If you have it set to notify you of updates instead of doing stuff automatically (I do that so I can run the updates when it is convenient for me, not "hey guess what we updated, rebooting in 5 minutes!")then you can tell it to never download it. Just uncheck the box and tell it to never tell you about it again.

That tool is not made to be easy for the average user to use. Download the file, click it and it asks where you wish to extract the files - my suggestion would be to extract to C:\ which is the root of your operating drive (typical setup, yours might differ but doubtful).

Right click My Computer and click on Properties... or click System in the Control Panel. You will see a System Properties box come up. Click on the Computer Name tab - you will see the name of your computer following the words "Full Computer Name:" . Anyway, write down the computer name.

Close that stuff out.

Assuming you are operating on drive C and that drive's root is where you extracted the tool's files... go to Start Button, and click Run. Type in "cmd" without quotes and click the OK button.
A "dos" box will appear with something like C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username> and it will have a blinking cursor after the >

Type at the blinking cursor the following: chdir c:\ and then push the enter key.
You should now only see C:\> and again the blinking cursor.

Type at the blinking cursor (but replace mymachine with your computer's name):

IE70Blocker.cmd mymachine /B

again push the enter key.

You should now be blocked against automatic update to IE7

First IE7 Security Flaw Found

Less than 24 hours after the launch of Internet Explorer 7, security researchers are poking holes in the new browser.

Danish security company Secunia reported today that IE7 contains an information disclosure vulnerability, the same one it reported in IE6 in April. The vulnerability affects the final version of IE7 running on Windows XP with Service Pack 2.

If a surfer uses IE7 to visit a maliciously crafted Web site, that site could exploit the security flaw to read information from a separate, secure site to which the surfer is logged in. That could enable an attacker to read banking details, or messages from a Web-mail account, said Thomas Kristensen, Secunia's chief technology officer.

"A phishing attack would be a good place to exploit this," he said.

One of the security features Microsoft touts for the new browser is the protection it offers users from phishing attacks.

Flaw Not Easy to Exploit
Secunia rates the security flaw as "less critical," its second-lowest rating, and suggests disabling active scripting support to protect the computer. The flaw could result in the exposure of sensitive information and can be exploited by a remote system, Secunia said in a security advisory posted on its Web site.

It is hard to exploit the flaw because it requires the attacker to lure someone to a malicious site, and for the attacker to know what other secure site the visitor might simultaneously have open, Kristensen said.

"A quick user browsing through our Web site using IE7 found it failed one of our tests," he said.

The company then verified the information, notified Microsoft and published a proof-of-concept exploit on its Web site.

FYI the RC1 method of bypassing activation works for the final release. You can grab IE7.rar off isohunt which includes it.
I have not verified this myself. I'm going to wait to see if a more legitimate workaround pops up.
