IE7 and Gmail Notifier

I just downloaded the Beta 2 of IE7, and I noticed right after it installed, Gmail Notifier quit working. I'm talking about the standalone app that runs from the taskbar, located here: http://toolbar.google.com/gmail-helper/index?promo=gdl-en

The problem I'm having is that now the app thinks it's offline all the time. However, it'll still take me to my inbox... just won't notify me when I have new mail. When I mouse-over the icon, it says it's offline. Doesn't give me an option to re-enter my username and password. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it a few times, none of which worked. I just wanted to see if this really was a result of installing IE7... and if perhaps Gmail Notifier was tied in to IE at all.

I'm not running the gmail notifier under IE, but I've noticed issues with some other addins. Most notably the Outlook Web Access S/MIME control.

It is a BETA of IE7 ... you didn't think Microsoft would get All the bugs out the first time ?
Look at all the glitches in XP ... still isn't 100% perfect ... all software will have some bugs
Then again, in this case, perhaps Google needs to update the Gmail Notifier to work with IE7

I would send a message to the support team at Google . . they may not yet be aware of
the problem or are already working on a fix

That's what I wanted to do originally, but couldn't find a link. Care to show me where that is?

Thanks. I sent them the report.

I have verified that this is indeed a problem with IE7, as I've removed it from my machine and Gmail Notifier works again. I wonder how many other Google programs are tied into IE's functionality...

And that gives Microsoft the right to screw up the functionality of a standalone app? You act like it's the fault of IE7, because it's in beta? What isn't in beta right now?

The fact that Microsoft can't avoid screwing up the simple offline/online detection of software written in Windows is pathetic.

Maybe you should go work for Microsoft and then their software will be perfect. Or better yet, fix and submit OSS code and show everyone you are the h@x0r to the m@x0r.

Ever stop to think that it may be google's software that is dependant on IE6?

Kappo ... see my first reply to this issue .... I took that factor into consideration
and suggested the OP might want to notify Google Help ... it could very well
be they need to update for use with IE7 ... I do not know if he is using the
Standalone Gmail Manager or the Google Toolbar which will also check Gmail
