Same here too and same result in Compatibilty view so it must be broken in IE7 too

Yeah, I think I never bothered to test AT in IE7

Yes, I don't understand why they didn't incorporate this feature. Also the option to hide the tab bar if there is only one page or tab open.

I never had a quick reply in Vista64 in IE7 and now IE8.

Also what the hell is with the color changing tabs??? It's getting anooying. The colors don't seem to mean anything.

I don't see the big deal, Safari is faster on my box and seems to do everything better. I never used Safari until the latest version and now it's all I use. IE8 isn't bad, but not worth switching from another browser, unless I guess that browser is IE7. Chrome is faster, Firefox is better, Safari is faster & better.

Maybe they'll get it right in IE9, I mean no spell checking? really? I bet IE9 won't have spell checking either, I could see MS saying "spell checking in a browser isn't a feature people want" Either that or they add it and say "IE9 is so uber advanced you HAVE to use Windows 7 to run it, Vista can't handle the power of IE9!" It's pretty sad when Apples browser runs better on Windows than the integrated Microsoft one.

Is anyone able to use "Web Slices"? According to the video on MS website it would seem to work on ebay, yet when I go there it doesn't detect any web slices.

EDIT: Web Slices do appear on the espn.com web page. So I guess for some reason they are down on ebay or perhaps I need to change an option on ebay?

Rendering pages is faster, but getting IE to open takes a lot longer now even when I disable add-ons.

I am getting "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." quite often. Happening both on my xp laptop and desktop. Does seem like a "sorry" version so far. Anyone else experiencing this?

Not the same thing. You click on enable quick reply, and then dock it, and it's always at the bottom of the scren ready for replies. You don't get all the editing ability like you do when you click reply, but it's awesome if you don't need to quote or insert links.

Actually the color tabs are cool & useful.
If you click a link in one tab that opens a new tab, then both tabs have the same color.
That means that you know at a glance exactly which tabs were spawned by other tabs.

I'm getting this as well...a nice 3 or 4 second delay from the time I click on the IE icon until the browser actually pops up...everything runs fine once the browser loads though.

Strange thing too...it loaded instantly in the Beta and RC versions.

Have already had three or four lockups with IE8 in Vista 64 in the last 24 hours. Might revert back to 7.

Never noticed the quick reply being missing in IE7 or IE8 ... but then I prefer to use Firefox. I did install IE8 today. Not too bad so far, may have to try some add ons. Hopefully there will be some sort of ad blocker, like in Firefox. For those that like to tinker with IE8 I can say that Menu On Top and No Search Box fixes for IE7 will work in IE8 .. I for one, don't need the built in search box as I use the Google Toolbar. I did not try the new Google Toolbar Beta 6 for IE yet. And as far as I know IE7 Pro will work with IE8 also. There are some minor issues and the next release will be called IEPro when it is ready.

You can get the fixes I mentioned from here:

http://www.enhanceie.com/ie/tweaks.asp

Just installed Google Toolbar V6 Beta for IE ... seems ok so far

If I recall right from what little I know of ASP.net, a different page can and probably is delivered to people using IE vs alternative browsers. That could very well be the reason that the quick reply box never shows up in IE. I doubt it is any fault of the browser.

Same thing here, sort of. When I click the icon IE loads, but then takes a few seconds before its ready to use.

i am running it fine with vista 64 bit ultimate. installed it last night and have been using it ever since. for those that are complaining about no spell check, get IE7 pro like bruceb said. i too use that and it does work with IE8, using it right now with it. it definitely is faster that IE7 and has some more features. one thing i do not like is the default color that is used when browsing the favorites to select another site. mine is light blue and is to light for me, how do you change that color?

FYI ... Restore prior session does not work in IE7 Pro with IE8 at this time. The developers know about it and it should be fixed in the next release.

OK. Got IE8 last night. For reference I am using XP Pro, so I'm sure I am not benefitting from Direct3D accelerated fonts and such, but I dont care.
Its cool but I dont know if its any faster. The menus are fine. I like the way the search comes up now, much better than that stupid popup window. (CTRL F or F3). The accelerators are nice but nothing special. I admit I do like them better than the widgets/gadgets/tools found in the Mac Safari. Once again Microsoft is late to the show but they actually seem to do a slightly better job than everyone else.

For more on MS being late please see Windows Mobile Vs Android, Palm, and Apple.

Not a huge fan of ie 8 on Vista 64 yet. I tuned off the accelerators which was just annoying.

I also dislike how you now cannot rearrange toolbars like you could with ie7. For example, I can't place the google toolbar in line wih the favorites bar which just wastes space which I hate.

Also, I noticed a stange issue, that after installing ie8, two of my windows sidebar gadgets now have purple borders around them, whereas before there was nothing.

Probably will try to work through the issues, but really doesn't seem any better than ie7.
