ieee 802.11g router selection for encryption

I am going to put up a wireless network at my dad's place and it has to b a wireless network. I heard from my friend that the standard wess (or something) encryption is pretty much crap, and that I am supposed to get a router with a different encoding scheme (I forgot what).

My question is which router would u recommend for 802.11g, that has a better encryption? Thanks in advance.

The standard encripton scheme is WEP encoding and comes in flavors of 40bit, 128bit, 256bit. Any other ways to encrypt the wireless conections are more or less so expensive that they arent viable in a home enviroment or even in a soho. If needed, you use a radium (radius??, didn't pay much attention at the time the technology was explained to me ) server that dinamicaly distributes new encoding keys to clients and that is what makes a wireless network preety much safer.

What 802.11g equipment to buy? Currently none, as there is no 802.11g standard *yet*. You can go for a 802.11b network ok 54G, which is *supposed* to upgrade to 802.11g when IEEE ratifies it. As for models, brands, i do not know.

Actually, I believe that IEEE approved the 11g standard on June 11th.

yea its been approved. also if some cards, AP and etc are not compatiable with others there should be firmware upgrades from the manufacturers soon. to make everything the same IEEE standard.
