If a Fan gets stuck and won't go around because of cat hair or something what's the worst that can happen?

here is a quick way to tell what fan isnt working,

1. shave the cat
2. place cat hair in case
3. turn on computer
4. watch cat hair fly all over the place
5. find out what fan wasn't spinning.

thats all you have to do.

If it's the CPU fan and it on a PI, PII, PIII or PIV you clean or replace the fan. If the processor is an AMD--you replace the CPU and probably the motherboard. Get the picture? R

If the fan's clean but not moving properly, take it off the heatsink, remove the little sticker on the back and put two drops of thin penetrating/lubricating oil into the hole. Spin the fan round a bit, remove excess. Bingo, one working (and quieter) fan. WD40 works a treat.

Most BIOS's give you the option of an alarm going off when the fan stops. What I find extremley dangerous about fans stopping though, is that if it's a high enough powered fan it will get hotter and hotter until the plastic catches on fire and turns into a minature inferno. This happend in taiwan tech show once. Fire alarms went off because one quiet fan just stopped, and caught on fire. Stopped fans get *very* hot because of resistance in the motor.

Dude.. Are you a moron? A case fan stopped, and you posted a thread asking what could happen to it BEFORE OPENING UP YOUR CASE AND FIXING THE PROBLEM?? You don't deserve to use a computer.
