If a mobo doesnt beep is it dead?

When i press the power button the pc fans work, but the mobo doesnt beep and the computer doesnt do anything, no boot up screen or anything, i tried to clear the cmos via the jumper, and i removed the battery but no luck.

is there anything i could do?

Try re-seating your video card. If that dont work maybe try changing the PS.

hmm, i was going to go with clearing the cmos...

probably a worthless suggestion, but you could make sure the RAM is seated securly.

after that, take it to a shop and let them test it with parts they know work.

start with the ram if you have more than one stick pull one boot if nothing put back in then boot if nothing leave one in and pull everything that is not needed than boot if nothing try a video card than cpu than ps than MB.

Well, I had this problem occur with an Abit Slot 1 board I used to have (coincidentally I just threw it out today after I tried to fix it again like 1 year later again). I think that no beeps is a pretty bad sign, but you should probably follow the advice of reseting the CMOS and reseating stuff like the video card and ram. When I looked closely at the motherboard after taking it out of the case, the problem seemed to have been two capacitors that were swelled (i think they somehow overloaded) and that seemed to have killed it. It was very similar to what you are descibing, in that the fans still came on and lights etc, but it didn't beep or anything.

Don't forget, you must disconnect the power cord whether you reset the CMOS with a jumper or by removing the battery.

I had this problem last week... tried everything I could think of from clearing the CMOS, taking out all PCI cards, trying different video cards, different motherboards... and it ended up being a dead CPU

how would i differentiate if its a dead CPU or a dead mobo...

Put another CPU, that you know works, into the mobo. If no beeps, its the board.

Just easier that finding another board to test the chip in and seating it... all that work.. blah

There are PCI cards you can use that spit out code values while a computer is booting. These code values might indicate what the PC is doing when it runs into trouble. Unfortuneately I don't know where to get these cards.

I had this happen with a dead network card plugged into a PCI slot, removing the card let the PC boot normally. Try taking out the PCI cards, then the video card and see if either step gets you back to beeping.
