Something tells me people are incapable of learning the main lesson of wars from history,
no one can predict when or how wars start or how and when they will end.
for example,
World War 1 was supposed to be the last great war and end by Christmas, we all know how that turned out.
Ok, here is how it will go down. They will get 4 private leer jets each with its own device, they will fly the jets to New York City, LA, Washington DC and Chicago and detonate them over those cities. It will be under the radar and the US Military will never have the opportunity to respond. There will 5-10 million killed instantly with another 5-10 million dying later. All commerce and inhabitation in those cities will cease. The federal government erased. Stock market erased. Military command crippled. Money supply crippled. Etc....
It is really not that complicated. All that is needed is an insane entity looking for nuclear devices (ISIS) and that entity must have the funds needed(ISIS). The last needed ingredient is enough corruption and fanaticism in Pakistan, that is the single fragile thread between modernity and a nuclear bloodbath. That thread could break today, tomorrow, 10 years from or even longer. There however can be no doubt that it will break.
Yeah, something tells me we are past the days of world wars. I just don't see it happening in modern society. We are rapidly moving toward a one world government type deal I think.
Keep dreaming. That is just delusional. There will be nuclear exchanges on a catastrophic scale at some point in our future. It is not a question of IF, it is a question of when. The hope is that it happens after we are all dead.
Denying this certainty is denying the character and history of man. If I were a betting man, I would bet on Islamic countries kicking off the destruction of the world, not the Chinese. The Chinese (like the Japanese) have a greater interest in keeping people out of their country than invading Western countries.
Wars are very unpredictable.
What we have going is we were just in the middle east. We have the greatest military ever. China's military is impressive but it is untested. When was China in an actual war? It's been a very long time. War tactics have changed greatly.
When I think of upsets I think of Britain vs the American colonies. Britain had the weaponry, technology, and man power. Their leaders were hardened veterans. Yet, we still won in the end.
Anything is possible when it comes to war.

If a fighting war does occur United States will pretty much win within 3 years after full mobilization. 1 year of "Oh no you didn't!" + <3 years of "You dun f'ed up China!"
If China/Taiwan Fabs go down. Well more money for Intel's Custom Foundry and Abu Dhabi's GlobalFoundries and Samsung's Austin/S2.
The only way the war would actually start is if China started it. Heck, if China goes to war, nothing is stopping the United States from gobbling Central and South America, as well.
That is assuming that ABM systems wouldn't exist. Which they do...Delusional. In a war between China and America, the cockroaches win.
Every logic circuit in my body says you are right. That is why I think we need to unite the globe ASAP, and why the west cant just pull out of Syria and all other places.Ok, here is how it will go down.
