"Those willing to sign a contract will soon be able to get a 3G model for even less, however, with Sprint now set to offer the Tab for a mere $200 on a two-year contract."

Running the "Mad-Murdock" tweaked version of CM7 now. Worth it just for the bottom task bar.

The newest version with the bar you can hide and bring back is particularly awesome. I actually prefer it to Honeycomb (because I can use the entire screen if I want to).

I am seriously considering picking up a nook color locally on craigslist to do this with, just wondering if anyone is running phiremod CM7 5.3, and how do you like it? Does phiremod run videos decently, like youtube?

Or is there another rom I should be looking at running?

Thanks.

I am so-so on phiremod because the community moves so fast that it is behind.

For example videos work (since that was solved a while ago Mid-March), but all the cool tablet improvements aren't added.

Once things settle it will be the best ROM, but for now it is too little too late.

If you are gonna get a Nook Color the best ROM is rooted stock for a little while to get a hang of things. Then eventually phiremod once CM7 is close to final release.

If I need to overclock the thing with rooted stock, is there an easy way to do that, or do I need to find a ROM that supports overclocking?

I have no issues with running rooted stock, just wondering if I will be missing anything major like the overclocking.

Thanks

That's the Nook with the e-ink screen. You want a Nook Color. I'd cancel the order now.

That is one seriously misleading listing from the company trying to sell it. Hope the guy who purchased it can still cancel.

Scam? Misleading? Guys... The original Nook was still Android powered and did indeed get rooted/hacked to an extent. They didn't do a thing to mislead people, and the picture shows the correct product.

The listing title has been changed since earlier this afternoon. It now reads:

Nook eBook Reader (Android Powered) WiFi (Refurbished) $79.00

when it used to read

Nook Color eBook Reader (Android Powered) WiFi (Refurbished) $79.00

It might show the correct image for the e-ink Nook, but the title is extremely misleading for those who don't know what the Nook Color hardware looks like.

When I first got mine, I ran CM7, then HC...but for the time being I'm settled on the rooted stock ROM. The NC is primariliy for the wife to use as an eReader. So having the stock Nook eReader app (not the Nook app, but the stock reader, which is pretty good) is good. But throw in a fully functioning eclair android tablet (gmail, internet, apps market/amazon apps market), it's just the icing on the cake. Really, unless you have a very specific reason for purchasing a e-ink eReader, you should be getting a NC.

I got my nook color today and got it rooted this afternoon. After playing with it for a while and trying some things, I decided to at least give phiremod cm7 5.3 a try since I already had it downloaded. I am liking it much better, seems snappier, and everything that I am using just seems to work so far (except weatherbug elite, but I use that for my phone mostly anyways). Very cool little tablet for the money.
