Urgh...mine is in town but delivery is on Monday. Can't wait to start toying with it when it gets here. Sounds like I will go with Froyo for the time being.

To those of you that keep up with the CM7 nightlies, does it completely wipe your nook every time you flash it with the new .zip or is there a way to just upgrade without wiping everything?

That is a common problem with the market cache. Go under settings, view all apps. Then clear the Google Framework data and Market cache. Then reboot. It should work then.

If you have a problem where certain apps don't show up in the market, install this:

http://code.google.com/p/market-enabler/

Using the Astro File Manager. Then run it and tell it to spoof a US T Mobile phone. then everything shows up.

Man, this worked, thanks a lot

I'm trying to figure out that myself, still can't get it to work. I'll keep playing with it.

setcpu says it's $1.99, is there a free app too?

This. I'm interested in finding out what my Nook can actually take as far as OCing. Is there an app that simply displays CPU information and possibly testing that doesn't cost anything?

Many of you probably are beyond this point, but there's a nice post on the first steps in hacking the device here.

Unless you hack the kernel to allow for a greater than 1.1GHz overclock that will be your max with SetCPU. The guy who makes the overclocked kernels swears that the 1.1GHz overclock was the most stable one found (hence why it is pushed)...

poofyhairguy, I really appreciate your posts, you encouraged me to install Froyo to eMMC, it made a huge difference.

You are very welcome. I am happy to finally be able to contribute to the AnandTech community I have looked up to for a long time.

One last thing, here is a sample of an encode I made that maxes out a Nook Color's GPU. Give it a shot to make sure your default player works fine:

You can't just copy it. I think there's a utility in windows that you have to use. It's easy in linux, simply use DD.

Download WinImage and use that.

I have that, when I direct WinImage to the folder I extracted the ROM to, theres nothing there! I just about bricked this thing a few minutes ago. I had to do a complete Re-root. Major panic there for a second. I dont' know what I'm doing wrong. I should wait till someone comes out with a super-easy install package for it. Yikes that was close.

Quit worrying about bricking it. You basically CAN'T brick the thing. The worst that can happen is the OS gets messed up enough and you'd have to boot via SD card. From there you can fix it.

I know that you don't need root to flash the internal memory with CM7, I'm not sure if it's the same for Nook Froyo. Sorry I can't help you with WinImage, I use strictly Linux at home so I just used DD. Here's the guide that I used for CM7, if you want to go that route.

Edit: If you look at the bottom of the first post in that thread there's a link for flashing the 1.1Ghz overclocked kernel, I did that as well.

You sure you're using the right version on nookiefroyo? There's two - one for SD and one for eMMC.

I tried the eMMC for both the froyo and the CM7. Someone could make a mint off of people like me on upgrading these Nooks for a small fee...
