Uh oh, I turned my Nook off earlier, and now it won't go past the "Touch the Future of Reading" thing on startup. I took out the SD card and it didn't help. I have to hold down the power button for 10 sec to turn it off. This seems bad.

Edit: nm, fixed it. Just had to format cache from clockwork.

I copied it to my sdcard, then chose the upgrade from zip in ROM manager and selected the zip file, but on reboot it tells me it can't boot from the sdcard, does a long count down, and then something flashes on the screen real fast about updating, and then the nook boots up to the desktop, can't tell if it actually did anything.

That means it should have worked.

How is BT on this guy? I'm thinking of treating myself to a tablet next month and one of the big uses is watching TV/Movies on long quiet night shifts in the car. I have a Motorola T505 that sucks up audio over BT and pumps it out via FM through the car stereo. Kind of an improvised surround sound that actually works pretty good. With stereo BT it's a non-starter for me.

The Bluetooth its kinda rough now, a work in progress. I have heard audio over ehadsets work, but voice doesn't.

Yeah, the touch sensitivity of the capacitive display is really good. I'm not sure how they sold a 7" IPS tablet with one for $200, but I sure do like it.

l have small hands,am finding the 7 inch size is perfect, the nook is comfortable to hold and work with. This is going to be quite a pleasurable toy to hack. The possibilities are endless!

Sweet! That was about the last hurdle to a fully functional build, right?

They are still refining it. It's a test build. Supposedly it keeps frame rates at 10fps regardless of quality on youtube. But with BT and DSP functioning, Nook Color is getting close to full function on CM7. I think CM7 is the best Android for it too, since HC is more designed for landscape, and I prefer using the NC in portrait since I can get a nice grip on it.

Right now, Froyo is still the only version with fully working DSP (for hardware video) and Flash.

However, CM7 is progressing rapidly, with the test versions of DSP and Bluetooth support out. I'd expect that it won't be long before CM7 is the ROM of choice for most people. (It already seems like it is for those who don't care about video that much.)

Right now I'm using the stock, rooted Eclair, because the others have trouble connecting to the wifi at my office. Based on recent posts on XDA, though, it seems like this might be related to changes in the overclocked kernels I was using, and an older version may fix it. So there's hope on that front too.

I went with Froyo for now using this tutorial http://mrm3.net/2011/03/03/nook-color-how-to-froyo-guide/

The flash went beautifully, I'm able to access/d/load from the marketplace everything is working

I am running 1.1 GHz on CM7. It's stable. I don't see a downside to it, since it only bumps frequency when you need it, and goes back to 300MHz once it's done.
Is there a way to OC the DSP core?

What are the benefits of flashing it to Froyo as opposed to just rooting the stock OS?

Flash player mainly. But if I were you, I'd root the stock OS for now, and play with that for a few days more till CM7 (Gingerbread) is done with fixing graphic acceleration (DSP) and Bluetooth. It's getting close to being fully functional, they are making great strides almost every day, so it shouldn't be long.
CM7 is great interface for the Nook, I like the virtual menu and return buttons on top. Froyo you press the N Button which then gets you virtual buttons to press, so it's more actions to move between screens. Or you can have floating virtual buttons but then those could end up on top of other stuff you want to press. Overall I didn't like Nookie Froyo. CM7 is much better IMO.

Finally got CM7/21 on it pretty nice. Can't get Youtube to work but thats the only issue right now. I have the latest 1.1ghz oc kernel that came out today on it. Pretty nice. And I got the bluetooth to work and pair up to my crappy Samsung Reality phone (just to see if it worked). Gonna play with it some. I just wish there was a way to update it with future build with out losing all your stuff.
