If every person lived in a mansion....

Because that is all they had, no choice. Just about everyone did. They just had to live in mansions. And only a very few lived in huts. It would be the ones in huts who would be admired and looked up to. There would be entire theories and movements on how we can get more people to live in huts.

If every person was real thin and skinny, it would be overweight and obese ones who would be considered privileged. As you may know that has been the case in many societies historically, and I believe still is in some.

If every woman walked around bare breasted, the female breast and the accompanying cleavage wouldn't be the object of a million industries worth trillions of dollars. There are still places, considered "not civilized" by the conceited modern man where women don't cover breasts and no one thinks twice about it. Incidentally, it was the self proclaimed civilized man that killed more than 100 million people in the last century alone, and not those supposed brutes.

Comparisons is what we do. Someone more intelligent, more wise, more famous, more funny, more social, has more looks, more educated, has more friends, has more possessions, has more social status, has more car, more gadgets, more money, more this more that. That is what we do, both consciously and unconsciously....until such time when there is nothing to compare.

I can talk about it, think about it, read about it, write on a forum about it, text about it....but......can I not compare? Is there a way out of this prison?

Before I read too far please define what a hut is & what a mansion is.

Just some thoughts:
Hut owners get a 10,000,000. Per year tax refund Mansion owners pay 50k per year in taxes
Huts are all extraordinary plush, comfortable and have servants. Mansion owners have no heat and leaky roofs
Hut owners also own 80% of all mansions and rent them back
Hut owners throw poop at mansions

Fat vs skinny we’ve seen that change over the centuries.

Talking about huts, it was no other than Karl Marx who said that a house by itself is neither big nor small. But when a mansion gets built next to it, it shrinks to the size of a hut

Why label it deep or shallow?
Everybody here has probably been graded from 1st grade on how smart they. It's a competition and competition is hate. Hate is fear, fear that one won't make the grade. We you live with that anxiety deeply rooted you want others to feel your own pain. We have all been called stupid so we want others to feel that way. Insults are effective because we have already internalized the feeling, in this case that we are stupid.

Some of Jack's deep thoughts for our foreign guests and the generally uninitiated.

- Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: “Mankind.” Basically, it’s made up of two separate words, mank and ind. What do these words mean? It’s a mystery, and that’s why so is mankind.

- Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you’re a mile away and you have their shoes.

- I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they’d never expect it.

- Children need encouragement. If a kid gets an answer right, tell him it was a lucky guess. That way he develops a good, lucky feeling.

- To me, it’s always a good idea to always carry two sacks of something when you walk around. That way, if anybody says, “Hey, can you give me a hand?,” you can say, “Sorry, got these sacks.”

Funny you’d say that. I know people in America from countries where they themselves say that had they stayed there, they would have had comfortable life with maids and servants. Someone to cook, wash dishes, wash clothes, clean, even someone to drive. Yet they moved to America and sometimes wonder why they did....

So I thought your point about servants was quite on the spot

If I understand correctly, do you mean we want to inflict our pain on others, albeit unconsciously? Is that what you mean by us wanting others to feel our pain?

So, you're starting at everyone having a place to live, with I'm assuming food, electric, plumbing, and entertainment?

That sounds like projection.

The answer is yes, conservatives operate in this manner 24/7/365.

Some parents are genuinely sick and will abuse their children out of sadism, but most parents want to spare their kids from the pain of not fitting in. They want them to conform to a norm, whatever they imagine it to be, so they will be safe from social criticism. They fear their children will be hurt so they hurt them into conforming by putting them down for deviant behavior. Also, raising kids brings up feelings long past that infuriate them to be exposed to again. Kids are a mirror and when we look we see we are emotionally dead and they are dangerously alive. We can kill rather than look in that mirror. When we are hurt and forced to swallow that hurt we experience rage and we soon learn that if we express that the torture really begins. We are told we are disrespectful and undeserving of their protection. A child can't survive alone so the self has to die and become obedient. The rage is there but repressed in the unconscious. The threat is rejection and isolation if you show it. We do the same to adults who commit crimes, we put them in prison and take away their freedom. The only option is passive aggression unless there is no supervision.

I didn't do this well, I'm not very focused at the moment but I hope it gives some sense of it.

Can you elaborate a bit more on the bold part? Is that repressed unconscious rage the same as ego? Is that where ego is born?

You tell me if there is *anything* that is new? As Bob Dylan once sang - if there is an original thought out there, I could use one right now.

Do you think you can come up with an original thought? Give it a try.

What I call ego is armor, the mental gymnastics of denial of feeling, the transfer of self worth that was innate and natural, our birth right, to worship of self as a right thinking moral machine, a true believer in the the ultimate good and all of which is there to save the self from the hell of feeling utterly worthless, of believing the lie we were sold and bought into to save ourselves from conscious endless pain. We hate ourselves and we hate ourselves for hating ourselves such that we live in a prison where everything we do is driven by blame. In this way we do not see that all of our ego driven efforts to fix ourselves are motivated by self contempt and just another unconscious way to punish ourselves. When the door to self reliance and ego hope dies, something deeply hidden can awaken, like the presence of a candle does when the sun goes down. Our real selves can be hidden but they can never be lost. To learn is to abandon everything you have been taught to believe. This is how I see it anyway.

You only have to look to social media to see this as truth. People are assholes because they want someone else to feel the pain they feel.

Yes not just the internet, which is only virtual. I think this happens a lot in real life, in all possible settings, causing suffering both to those who behave as assholes and the ones on the receiving end. The latter sooner or latter become like the former in many cases and the chain just continues...

Breaking the chain is the hardest part, because at some level, it is so much fun to be an asshole.
