If I wanted to setup an Apache Web Server where would I get the software?

I guess I asked a stupid question... But I don't know anything about apache web servers or how they run, etc. I was just interested in learning about them. When I posted this question I was thinking that Apache Web Server software was its own version of linux, and not a third party piece of software to be installed in almost any OS enviroment.

However, simple questions appear to no longer tolerated here. So please make sure you ask a complex question for the advanced user.

Thank you to those of you whom took my request seriously and provided helpful answers.

No post is in vain, as long as an elite member got a good laugh out of it

Seriously though, how do you expect to run an Apache Web server off Linux if you couldn't even find out where to download it?

First, he never mentioned linux. Second, there is a fairly new site out there that would solve "problems" like this. Whoever came up with the idea of a "search engine" wasa frickin genius! Oh, and that site is www.google.com! I swear they have answers for *EVERYTHING* there! One of these days, everyone on the internet will have heard of them!

Is it available for download? If so where?

Also any recommendations regaing the install? I have previously installed Mandrake 8.1 so I have a little linux experience and some unix expereince from college courses.

Any suggestions for good books regarding apache web servers?
I guess I just assumed he'd be installing it on Linux because he stated he had experience with it...

Its a possibility. Hopefully, no one will get offended by my brash use of common sense. I know common sense isnt exactly common, but web savviness should be fairly common on a board like this.

lol...how did I know that this would happen. Isnt this exactly what I was talking about in the Linux FAQ section? Ummmm...YES it is

Some people just get too offended when you ask them to do some of the leg work themselves, or when you ask them to RTM. I'm not going to go into my dissertation on this...

Throw in that some people have no experience doing this (or maybe went to apache.com first, which is not the correct site nor of any help at all)

Maybe it was just added after you posted, but apache.com has a "Looking for Apache the web server" link real big in the bottom/middle of the page.

And using google to search for 'download apache' turns up the real Apache download page as the first 4 hits.

There are some days when I can't remember if this board/forum is to help people or tell them how stupid they are...

Not stupid, lazy. I've seen too many threads that look like :

Original Poster: How can I DFDFD?
Reply 1: Try DFEWX software.
Original Poser: But, can you give me a link and instructions on using it?

Even though the name of the software is uniqe enough to find it easily and the page has docs.

The problem is that too many peeps look at these forums as a place to be spoon fed the answers, and not as a place to collaborate and learn from each other. Just look at some of the recent threads, especially linux, and tell me that no one else can see that trend.

To top it off, people have the nerve to tell you off when you try to steer them in the right direction, by giving them the tools rather than the answer. Oh well...
