If Intel began making CPU's a stronger then AMD CPU's for a tad bit more $, would u buy intel cpu's then?

I guess I could be called an odd ball, but since I don?t play many games or do gobs of encoding, and my software ranges from DOS programs to current apps I tend to favor whatever processor has the better legacy support (as long as it doesn?t fall to far behind with current software optimized code).

Now I?m sure Intels P4 would run my older software fine but if by ?if intel begins making cpu's stronger then amd? you mean ONLY with software optimization then I would still have to stick with AMD.

I just don?t like playing Russian roulette with my older software.

Aren't both processors equally powerful, but intel has longer pipelines which are great for constantly "pushing" data through, but SLIGHTLY slower for little bits of information that don't come at a constant rate, where as amd's have shorter pipelines which are able to move small packages of data that don't come at a constant rate.

EDIT: It wouldn't requier intel to make them faster, but insted completly redesin the chip.

P.S. I am not an expert, i read that on the fourms somewhere, if i am wrong then just blame the guy who originaly said it.

I will only buy AMD unless something major happened. I do not like Intel for the most part. I do not like alot of their practices and definitely upset with them ripping off millions of people including my grandfather with those piece of crap Celerons. Of course, this is all just IMO.

I have both AMD and Intel boxes. The AMD CPU's I bought always were better for price/performance compared to the Intel CPU's I have bought. But, I basically use the AMD boxes in the winter and my Intel boxes in the summer.

If price is the same on the same ghz speed? I'll stick with AMD. They obviously have more power hz for hz compare to Intel. Remember AMD uses the Pentium equivalent rating vice the real speed of the cpu.

Generally I would buy which ever one edged the other one out in tests that apply to what I use it for (which of course is games =) Anyway, I still would lean toward buying the AMD chip...at least until AMD is no longer the underdog. I like competition...it gets me what I want even faster.

Just look at ATI and nVidia. the competition between the two of them are netting us some really fantastic video cards.

Answer: OP is a retard.

An AMD64 3200+ is x, a 3700+ is x + a bit, Intel 3.4GHz is x + a bit, and both outperform the 3200+.

The processor I can afford is the one I will buy.

If Intel made a better gaming chip for just a tad bit more $, I'd buy the Intel.

I mostly care about gaming. Since I got a 486DX way back, the app's used in my business seem to be very fast. Now, loading them on my pc's for first time might take a week with a 486DX . In my line of work (CPA) our proggies are NOT graphically demanding etc.
