Which window manager is the right one for you.

I'm torn between, XFCE, Gnome & Fluxbox.

I never really cared for kde or gnome. My first choice is Enlightenment and my second choice is xfce4

I have never liked KDE, always been a gnome fan on my desktop, and *box on my slower laptop

You are asking about window manager, yet throw whole desktop environments.
If question is about window manager - I don't care much about kwin, blackbox would do just fine.
But if you mean not having any KDE applications... I don't think I would use gnu/linux on my desktop
(my old powerbook thought, does its job w/o gnome/kde apps).

XFCE I think, with Gnome's apps, though I would surely miss the KDE apps.
I've never liked Gnome, and it's gotten worse with the last few versions IMO.

The bare interface is the point, full desktops, taskbars, etc are waste of screen realestate.

You could always run apps full screen. I'm sure the flux users need equivalent functionality (otherwise they're working inefficiently) like cpu monitor, switching/monitoring running apps, and launching apps - and they probably use a more cluttered approach (mish mesh of icon boxes and helper apps) to have all these things available, where in gnome it's all packed together into one (or two) small taskbars.

What are "switching/monitoring running apps"? I have 3 things on all desktops, gkrellm (68x559) with all of the system monitors I need, a small quicklaunch bar (36x228) and 8 desktop pagers (76x48 each) and I really could get rid of the pagers since I don't use them very much, but it's convenient to be able to drag apps from desktop to desktop via the pagers once in a while. E16 provides a menu of all my installed apps by ctrl+clicking on the background so I have only the essentials in my quicklaunch.

Generally, I switch apps by switching desktops because I only run one or two things per desktop and when necessary I can hit alt+tab to switch apps on a single desktop. I could probably make gnome work as well for me, but it would take more work and E does everything I need nicely and with less annoyances.

I actually boot with the version of ICEWM that comes with Libranet 2.8.1! Right now Libranet 2.8.1 is a free download as v3.0 is in beta test.

I enjoy Gnome and use it primarily. I've used XFCE and it was nice. On my old P2 laptop, Blackbox runs nicely and isn't too bad to use. Different but nice. I've been curious about Kahakai. Has anyone tried it?

I tend to use one Konsole and a bunch of tabs.
Tabbed xterming is just like tabbed browsing, once you get used to it, you can't stop

Then a mailclient and browser of course.

Except that you're bound to one GUI term, I prefer screen because it's terminal agnostic.

Well, Konsole has many nice functions.
I've tried to find something a bit more lightweight, but in the end, I always end up missing something, and in these days of 3 GHz CPU's and cheap gigs of RAM, I always end up deeming Konsole superior since it doesn't really matter that it's a tad more bloated.
