I really, really like this video for a reason that most of the AT population won't understand.

/note: Wisdom follows

This video is the physical manifestation of what happens when the 20-something internet generation realizes that the world that they created has gone to total shit.

Sure; you have a degree in computer science/accounting/mathematical socio-engineering/whatthefuckever. Congratulations. Would you like to wipe my ass with your degree?

Perhaps you should wipe YOUR OWN ASS. You thought you were cool, right? You were p0wning and firsting and "OMG I h@x0r3d your @ss!" all over the place.

But now you all work for A Really Big Company. With YOUR PEERS. And now you realize that none of you know or understand how to actually function in the real world. OMGHi2U!!!

Welcome to the Real World, people. The internet is a research and entertainment tool, not a way of life. If you want to see a real tool, check out the mirror.

A canoe is one of the few watercraft that can right itself after capsizing. *cool Chinese karate film music plays*

Like I said; I am not expecting the majority of posters/responders to actually get it. Enjoy your 20-something coolness while it lasts. The real world has always been there and it's not going away. Life's a non-stop train that somehow manages to pick up passengers along the way. You've got a ticket, though you might not realize it yet.

Did they factor in the salinity and sea surface temperatures while in Changchun - in January?

In all seriousness, I think you're overreacting and being way too serious for people having fun, being stupid and manifesting their inner childhood come to full realization behind their monitors on the net.

I don't know how this suddenly relates to us 20-somethings functioning in the real world. Do you want to act like you're in corporate meetings in our personal worlds of internet? We were doing that all day at work!

Does our behavior on internet reflect who we are in the real world? Give me a break. I'm your 20-something whom you've targeted. I work my ass off since I got my degree 2 yrs ago and I got me a promotion just last year. I'm working hard and playing hard which includes managing my 401(k) wisely, karaoking my ass off on weekends with friends, hitting the parties and going that extra mile for my customers while my boss is out.

It also certainly includes acting like a retard on the net.

Know what's interesting? Every "younger generation" thinks they know more than those even 10 years older than they.

That statement is retroactive to include ME, circa 1985. Educated, idealistic and enthusiastic counts for bupkus in the real world. A degree in Communications, the desire to better the world thru your own unique gifts and the desire to make it happen will get you nowhere in corporate America...so I found out. But WTF? I have a degree!@! I'm way smart and cool and know everyfuckingthingthereistoknow...so why isn't the Treasure Chest Of Gold and the Room Of Virgins open to me?

Well..

The terms "company man", "dedicated" and "tireless" are what got me by after quite a few failures in the real world. Yeah, you have a few victories in the conference room; your plan for dealing with the power outage AND the UPS rebuild (which somehow happened to be scheduled for the exact same 5-hour period) went off w/o a hitch. But yet...that doesn't count. You must get over yourself and realize that competence and reputation are what matters. And they aren't built in a day or week. Much like Rome wasn't. <--had to throw the Rome reference in there.

I love schooling you youngsters...I really feel like I'm making a difference. Sure; the total kilocalories of anger you direct towards me could power a medium-sized city for 53 hours; but if I got you to think, then my job is done.

I actually do think it has a really good point. Maybe not so much in terms of Off Topic where most everything is not very serious and all, but in places like P&N or hardware and stuff its pretty informative. People respond to "serious" threads with the same type of cr@p. Someone starts a thread on a new processor and you get about 4 posts before it devolves into name calling a potty humor, same goes with the P&N threads. You get about 3 posts before it devolves into people either calling each other mentally handicapped or being payed off by the other side (like any of us here are really getting &&& from oil companies to post agaisnt global warming??!? etc..).

Basically just brings up the most relevant quote ever made about internet forums: "arguing on the internet is like playing in the special olympics, even if you win you're still a retard"
