In some ways I just wanna kill myself to get it over with than suffer lol. That's just me though. Maybe my morbid thinking again.

I'd rather not go through the pain and sorrow of seeing my family or talking to them for one last time at such an early age. Fvck John Titor.

Another nuclear question. The main reason we'd all probably die is basically when the nuclear bombs land the smoke and dust created would eventually kill off all sunlight coming through which would lead to no trees which would mean no oxygen for us to breathe, correct? It would basically be night for a long, long, long time.

Am I the only one from Anandtech who this kind of freaks me out? I mean there were like ten people who voted that ithey do believe in what will happen.
Fallout (radiation) will be the first cause of lingering death, followed by starvation or suicide/murder. The nuclear winter you describe would probably not be as bad as an ice age and will probably clear up after 5 - 10 years.

Seriously nocturnal since the events leading up to this take place in 1-2 years and the nuke war doesn't happen for a decade after that you'll know a fully decade before 2015 if it's really gonna happen or not. There's lots of wilderness to move your family to in canada

Hypothetically speaking, everyone who has nukes currently knows how powerful they are, right? Why would anyone want to so badly hurt the US government (stated by John the lovely human Titor) that it would cause them great harm as well?

Maybe it is finally dawning on you that Titor is full of crap?

That whole time travel stuff is like a bad rip-off of an Outer limits episode from the 60's. I could write you a much better story and put a seriously twisted ending on it.

Or you can watch an equally crappy movie called Cyborg. Its about a time traveller and a horrible future.

Using your instinctual survival mechanisms is fine, man. But living in fear of death only reduces the quality of your life. You or any one of your family/friends could be hit by a bus tomorrow. You seriously need not worry about large-scale nuclear war. M.A.D. is one hell of a deterrant, and barring that, if we all launch, there really is no safe place on this earth. If it came down to nuclear holocaust I would rather die in the blast (i.e. instantly) rather than waste away due to radiation sickness and die of cancer in horrible agony.

Death is a very natural part of life. The sooner you realize and accept that without fear, the better able you will be to make the most of the time you do have (right now).

P.S. Don't let some cleverly-written web site give you nightmares. Read up on the whole "War of the Worlds" radio fiasco in 1938. Same idea, just a less sophisticated medium.

Nocturnal,

Think about it. You actually believe that TIME TRAVEL is possible? We can't even create an ANTI-GRAVITY room on the planet without using Airplanes, so you know that we can't create a time machine. Think about this: Do you really think alot of technology would be around after a nuclear strike on most major cities in the U.S.? Do you think that 10 or so years after the nuclear war we would have the technology to create a time machine when he states that people live in TREE HOUSES? We can't even cure the common cold!

Don't believe everything you hear and with your condition, you probably want to stay away from those type of websites.

uh, how old was the guy when he travelled through time? I read the story and think he said he left in 2036 or something, so if he was 40... he's alive right now. I still think the story is a load of crap though.

I watched wargames earlier and the one place that never got hit in the nuclear attack simulations was Papua New Guinea. Pretty much everything else got blown into little tiny bits.

I can't recall but I know he would be 5 years old right now. He was supposedly born in 1998. I don't care anymore, I'm trying to believe that this craps all made up cuz it probably is.

you would think that John Titor would rather take some almanacs and lottery ticket numbers than waste his time post stuff.

Nocturnal, see if you can find this movie at Blockbuster. It's a pretty good flic (I remember when it was first broadcasted in '83 and everybody was freaked out) and gives you a pretty good idea of what a nuclear war may be like.

Funny I was just thinking about that film. It took place (and was filmed) here in Lawrence Kansas. Interesting movie, in a morbid sort of way. It definitely made me think twice about trying to build a shelter or something and "escape" destruction, because life for the survivors was just so awful.

I have the DVD and watch it every so often (mainly just to see scenes of Lawrence back in the early 80s). But I have to say that I get chills during the scene when all the silos open and the minuteman missles come soaring out... hard to imagine what you'd be thinking about if you ever saw that.

P.S. I was five when that aired, so I don't remember all the hubub, but I've read a lot about it and it was a big deal. The scenes after the blast were aired commerical-free because no sponsors wanted that time slot. After it was over they had a special newscast in which Carl Sagan first proposed the idea of Nuclear Winter.

I've got a morbid fascination with the idea of nuclear holocaust... it's just so absurd as to be intriguing.

A better movie, if you can find it, is a British documentary style movie called The War Game. It goes into some pretty graphic stuff, ie: people's eyes melting and bleeding from watching the blast directly, to bodies stacked up for disposal or the fights over bomb shelters and property. It is a rather gruesome movie.

I found a link:

Have you read what the US is expecting the cost of Iraq to be? It works out to about $4000 per citizen of Iraq. Heck, Alabama would be a bargain!
