If jet engines are better than bird-wings... why haven't birds evolved jet engine wings?

If riding on wheels is better than walking...why has no animal ever evolved to have wheels?

Your first assumption is that riding on wheels is better than walking, which is false.

- Walking/running on your own 2 feet is one of the best forms of excercise
- You can traverse all types of terrain, even scale vertical walls and trees
- Your two legs are the pillars that protect your most vital organ, your balls

No one goes out and says "I think I'm going to saw my legs off today because I want that spiffy wheelchair with the shiny red flag on the back. Wheels are for our convenience. Legs are for life.

Your assumption that wheels are better than legs is wrong, and that is why nature has not evolved a creature with wheels.

Because JiffyLube "neglected" to rotate the wheels after charging the animals for it, and in the end, they all fell off, and the animals went extinct.

well we have a legal system whereas the animal kingdom does not. when we break the speed laws we get a ticket and pay a fine, in the animal kingdom you just get eaten by a fvcking bear.

Evolution of living things should be categorized into two sections: intellectual and physical

Given the fact that the "wheel" requires an intellectual evolutionary process in order to create it and isn't likely to just pop out of the ground, then only organisms that evolve to increase intelligence will one day be able to think up the "wheel" while those that are more inclined towards physical prowess will not. Feral creatures (i.e. sharks, cat/dog species, etc) will never even fathom the idea nor the usefulness of the "wheel". However, more intelligence creatures, like dolphins and primates, will come to recognize the important and applications of it. Fortunately, the lifestyle that humans led forced us to think of things to make life easier, hence the "wheel" is born.

While I don't agree with the assumption, ("if" having no personal opinion as a word) this is a wonderful reply. Thank god for legs and my balls.

I have decided to award you the winner of dissention, a second winner will be announce shortly.

1) Won't work on most types of terrain
2) Bones would wear down badly, could only work on creatures with a VERY short life
3) Occam's Razor, wheels are much more complex to evolve then a pair of legs or a flipper. There is a progression from nubs to legs, how would one evolve a wheel?

So basically even if some creature went through all of the impractical steps toward creating wheels instead of legs, it would have died out because it would be horribly disadvantaged, essentially unable to travel and easily injured by rocks that would break its wheels.

Second winner for clarity and depth of argument!

The evolutionary advantages of lying on your side in a muddy waterhole with your wheels spinning uselessly aren't that readily obvious when you think about it.
