Hal, do you honestly believe that you would be in the position of making that choice were it not for the thief showing up and trying to steal your shit?

do you really want to blame the victim? (yourself?)

Hell no, and the cars owner shouldn't even been able to defend his property any more than saying stop. Thats why we pay taxes, to pay the professionals(police) to handle issues like this.

I disagree there.

If you are inside your car and someone tries to forcibly enter it, then you have the same rights as if you were defending your home. You can and should assume that person has a deadly weapon and intends to kill you or do great bodily harm that could kill you.

If we are talking someone tries to take your car from outside your house, then its a grand time to brandish any weapon you have. If you live in an area that permits it, maybe its time to put a few rounds into the air just to make sure your weapon still fires.

Maybe I misread the question. Are we talking someone stealing your car or a carjacking? Two completely different things.

Wow. you think your time is more valuable than a human life.

Huh? No that's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying I treat people like they treat me. The thief obviously doesn't value my life because I have spent a large portion of my life dedicated to paying for said vehicle. Not the thief, not you, but me. I did that. That vehicle is an extension of my time. It represents part of my life. You want to take that from me? Then you're taking part of my life away from me and that's a good enough reason for me to take yours.

I would not shoot them if I was not in it. I am not going to kill someone over a possession. I would like to have non-lethal rounds for when only my property is at risk. Maybe pop them with rubber bullets and proceed with a beating. If it was a carjacking, and I could defend myself, I would use whatever force necessary to prevent me from becoming the next Christopher Newsom. Same with a home invasion, they would die.

If I'm in the car, absolutely. If I'm not in the car.... I dunno.

Why so?

Well no, the thief doesn't value your money, or your property, they've said nothing about your life, unless (i suppose) if your entire life is the car, either is a life support system of some kind or it took your entire like to earn it.

"that vehicle is an extension of my time" so you value your time higher than the criminals life.

I just don't understand why you think someone should have the right to kill someone over a car?!

It's like you think the thief accidentally stole the car. The thief is the one making the decision, creating the situation.

The thief is saying, "I believe that the benefit of stealing your car is greater than the risk." It is up to those with the means to do so, to make the cost of stealing a car greater than the benefit.

Assume it is a car jacking that poses no threat to you or anyone else... also I don't know who this is...

Right... so you are making a point, teaching the criminal a lesson by exchanging his life for your car?

HAHAHAHA...you are a funny idiot. I am in Texas, you are getting shot if I have a gun and catch you taking anything of mine.

I'm not opposed to people defending their property from thieves with guns.

But you believe that stealing a car warrants death so that the criminal doesn't repeat the offence... Thus capital punishment. No?

No. This thief is already dead. I am letting all future potential car thieves know that the potential risk for trying to steal a car is the loss of their life.

Maybe I should shoot out my tires?
