If sportsball is so popular why isnt it pirated?

I never see major league sports events on the torrent sites. Granted, I usually click right on the Porn link but still, when I'm bored and browsing around I never see games. Not even the super bowls.

Why?

Is sports ball the one industry that actually prosecutes pirates all the way to a win?

Actually funny story - I was PO'ed when one of this season's NLDS games was on MLB Network only. I have some friends very high up in one of the organizations and I texted him asking if it was truly only on MLB Network. He confirmed it then suggested Reddit

I'm not a sportsball person, but everyone that I know who is likes to watch that stuff live it possible. That way they can talk about who had the tightest pants or whatever the next day at work. Torrents always seem to take several days to take off. At a minimum it'd be after the end of the game.

Why would you want to watch a sporting event not live?

It's possible, especially for stuff like PPV boxing or big MMA fights, to avoid news reports and then pirate/watch a torrent the following morning without a spoiler. Watching a boxing match the next day is infinitely superior to watching it live, takes about half as long as you can skip the hoopla, the walk from the dressing room, the instructions and the between round breaks. Other than that, no. It's not like you can watch a Super Bowl two days later and enjoy it. Gotta be a niche sport that not everyone will be talking about.

That being said, there's little reason to even torrent boxing/MMA unless you're out doing something else. The way people pirate that stuff is live streams, not torrents.

DirecTv has had a free MLB Network preview the past few years so every lower level subscriber (like me) can still watch the playoff games. I assumed other cable companies did that, too?

Yeah - It ended up Uverse, Spectrum... basically every major cable operator had a "free MLB Network" weekend that weekend. Obviously orchestrated that way to entice people to watch and hopefully buy in. Long story short - Reddit was not needed.

It's hard to avoid especially if you're a fan. Unless you work from home and sequester yourself from the internet in the days after a big game, you're going to find out what happens. It's not like a movie where it's usually pretty easy to avoid spoilers (and the people who have seen it are normally conscious of not spoiling it). Even people who don't watch the games hear about the result on the news or social media.

Some people will DVR the game and watch it later in the day if they're busy while it's live, but even then it can be hard to avoid hearing about it.
