If Starbucks went bankrupt, would you care?

Just today they announced another huge drop in earnings and plan even more store closings.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Starbucks Corp. announced a new round of store closures and layoffs as it reported Wednesday that its profit dropped 69 percent in its fiscal first quarter with sales continuing to slide.

The company plans to close 300 underperforming stores around the world by the end of the fiscal year in addition to the 600 it already planned to close in the U.S. The company has already closed 384 of those stores.

If people dont spring for those $5 lattes anymore will Starbucks finally go tits up? :shocked:

People forget that most coffee places aren't called Starbucks. I don't know if they ever had a majority of the market. I can't say when I last went into one, and I get coffee at least a few times a week.

That's dumb. That's like trying to downplay McDonald's as a player in the fast food market...except even more so. Just because they don't have the MAJORITY of the market doesn't mean they aren't a huge player. Even here, where there are tons of competitors (Seattle's Best aka Starbucks Jr, Tullys, Uptown Espresso, etc) there's still way more Starbucks than anything else.

I know it's popular to hate on starbucks, but yes I would care - and I would be sad.

I like their coffee, and I like that I can get a big cup of it for under 2 bucks. (Yes, that's what a large drip costs). I get away with saying large, medium, and small in every starbucks store I have ever gone too, though their naming for their sizes doesn't bother me. (I have no objection to using "venti" as fake as that is). I do order a Carmel Macchiato (I think that is how it is spelled) from time to time and shell out the extra money for it. With their rewards card thing (basically just register a gift card online - you don't even have to put money on it) I can get a free refill and a shot of something in my coffee, and i think I can get free wifi in store through AT&T with that card but haven't done so, so I don't know this for sure... hopefully it works if I ever need internet for some reason and I'm near a starbucks.

And completely besides their coffee : I don't think I've ever been questioned if I walk into a starbucks and just use the bathroom, then leave. To me that means when I'm traveling or in a city I don't know, there are a lot of maintained bathrooms that I can hit up. It makes things just a little easier.

They won't go bankrupt since they're still profitable even with declining sales.

Though my company provides free starbucks, it wouldn't bother me too much since we also have free dunkin donuts coffee too.
