If the Dark Tower movies/tv series ever actually get made...

So maybe they could have a real resolution? I like that idea. They don't even have to explicitly state that it's the second go-round. All they have to do is show Roland carrying the horn throughout the series and maybe include the bit of back-story about how he managed to hold on to it through the battle where Cuthbert and Alain died. The people who are unfamiliar with the books won't know the difference, but the people who have been following TDT all their lives would probably get it right away.

Exactly! And, it's a built-in justification for changing the movies from the books, which most conversions don't have.

I prefer to live in a world where I am still waiting for a sequel to Wizard & Glass to come out.

I have no idea what this thread is about especially since everything is blacked out.

There is literally no way to discuss the topic without spoiling all 7 books and the entire movie series without spoilering everything!

I oh so hated the books while i was reading them, i kept thinking its going to get better, but it was super duper slow (but the action when it comes in bits and pieces is decent), i hated the chapters upon chapters which suddenly moved away from the storyline to reveal back-story, i understand charterer building is important, but this was ridiculous.

But since i have never left a book without completing, i finished the entire series anyway. and OMG the ending ... i pity the guys who are reading this now.

one of the worst series i have had the absolute displeasure of wasting my time on.....

Agreed. I didn't have any problem with the stories by themselves, but the whole rambling, directionless, confused main plot was painful to experience.

And then he chastises his readers for expecting an ending to the story, rather than "enjoying the ride".

Stephen King "paid by the pound" at its finest.

I have basically dumped the last 3 (I see he churned out an 8th now!?!) books from my memory.

Just freaking terrible.

The ending was literary genius, and a perfect metaphor for modern life.

And most disappointing.

Liked the books but there isn't much chance of a movie being any good. Most King adaptations are horrid. Only a rare few directors would do the ka-tet justice. Peter Jackson or the Wachowski brothers come to mind.

Guillermo Del Torro could do it justice as well I think. But I think a series treatment, a la Game of Thrones, would work better than movies.

I consider the first three books pretty good. The Gunslinger and the Drawing of the Three are fantastic, and three (don't remember the title) is Ok. After that is Wizard and Glass, which I liked, but damn son the books are a pain to read after that.

A series would likely be best, going along with Maniacalpha's idea.

I do actually like the idea of doing book one as a movie and then doing drawing of the three as episodic TV series. But I'm curious who would voice Blaine, lol!

Blaine! Blaine is such a pain!

So much is riding on who even fills the roles of Jake, Eddie, and Susannah,
especially Odetta and Detta!
. Jake and Eddie both grew so much.
Roland, while a complex character, and surely seemingly more important than any other character for casting purposes, it seems like their is a laundry list of For Sure ready actors to fill that role.
Hell, this list just about covers the best possible candidates, and still seems to be a little short. http://www.tor.com/blogs/2012/04/the-face-of-the-dark-tower-casting-thoughts-for-roland-deschain
And I can almost guarantee Oy will be a pure CGI character, which is sad but would definitely be expected. If handled well, it might not be too bad. "Voice" and body movements of the little guy will be important, and if they butcher that, I'll be extremely displeased. If it looks bad, a lot of the movie/series will just be off-putting. Plus, Oy just deserves a quality screen treatment. He was awesome.

Also, regarding the project: I've heard (or imagined) that Wizard and Glass would be one of the TV seasons. I think that seems fitting considering the amount of content available.
If it becomes a Cable project, which I really hope it does, that would be perfect. Think of this whole project as a combination of Hollywood movies with a HBO series that goes along with them/in-between them.

That, and I'd also LOVE to see an entire HBO season/miniseries (10+ episodes) dedicated to Wizard and Glass. That is, by far, one of my favorite King books (if not THE favorite), and definitely one of my favorite books ever. And it had such a significant impact in the story, and really helps capture a lot of the ideas and themes of the store universe.

I personally thought the ending was great. I know it gets tons of hate, but I prefer it over any other fan ending I've heard.

To me...I actually prefer the idea of them just leaving it alone.

I have my visions of Roland, the lobster things, the doors on the beach, what the seaside village in W&G looks like, the deserts and towns he crossed, the glory days of Gilead, Eddie and Susannah and Jake, Walter and his cards and the campfire, underneath the mountains, the big ass robot bear, all of the them learning to fire the big irons and become gunslingers, the key in a piece of wood, the NYC of that universe...

I don't want some film or tv version of it to compete with those. Let all of us enjoy it and envision it in our way.

I hope this never gets done. There is just too much content. King's goal was to write the longest novel and he wrote more than 4,250 pages.

None of the main characters can be seen as anything but highly complex. the evolution of Eddie, subtleties and nuances of Roland, and the bat-shit craziness of Odetta. Too much to work with and on. The screen, large or small, will never do it justice.
