If the DBacks lose is it more Brenly's fault than anyone else?

Yes I'm no baseball manager or have great baseball IQ but many of his moves this series have questionable at best. In game one with the Dbacks up 9-1 by like the 4th or 5th inning he let Curt pitch till the 7th knowing that he'd be the starter for two more games. Now Schilling if anyone can go high on pitch counts but why use them up when your up 9-1. Only team you'd worry about coming back 8 runs would probably be the Indians. I missed game two but in game 4 schilling had a tough 7th inning but he was at 88 pitches and two runs leads are hardly anything. Back in Philly it wasn't all that unusual to see Curt go more than 110 pitches and he has always been known to be a workhorse so why take him out now? Then Kim a youngin comes in and though he strikes out the side and like the first batter in the ninth goes full count on everyone. Gives up the two run homer and yet Brenly leaves him in for the tenth after Kim goes deep counts on everyone previously and they've seen quite a of his pitches by now. Lots say his strategy for bunting was incorrect but he's an NL coach and though they were playing AL rules you really can't fault him trying to get only 1 or 2 more runs with which at the time was Schilling pitching. I think he shares equal blame as Kim if the DBacks loose, although the Dbacks are looking ok with johnson and curt pitching the last two games.

Should have let Schilling pitch all 9 innings in game 4, he probably would have held on. All well though, i'm in favor of the yanks

you don't take the starter out in the 4th or 5th inning even if you're winning by 20 runs. Shilling should have pitched a complete game the 4th game of the series. i don't know too much about what the d'backs have in the bull pen but i'd be very reluctant to put in a closing pitcher in a close game who's prone to give up the long ball; which apparently kim is. if the d'backs lose this series, it won't be because of their hitting or their starting pitching; it's because they don't have a closer. and yes, i do think the manager is at fault and in fact should take most of the responsibility for the losses.

dont' forget that if Matt Mantei, the D-backs closer, were healthy, this series would be over right now....but I think the only real questionable decision was to bring Kim back out for that 10th inning...he is very tough on right-handed batters the first time they face him, but the second time around they adapt.....see Jeter in that game and Brosius last night.......

Damn Yankees!

This type of stuff has happened to the Braves year after year. The braves used to get to the WS in the early 90's and always had GREAT pitchers. Their problem was they had crappy relievers. They would get to the 7th or 8th inning after allowing very few hits. Then they would blow the game. The Dbacks have awesome starters but when they can't make it for all 9 innings they get into trouble. Kim is a good pitcher but he hasn't been able to cut it in the WS.

If the Diamondbacks lose it's the Yankees that done it. It's not like the Diamondbacks did anything to deserve it. 2 pitches, less than perfect and the Yanks knock 'em out of the park. What are the odds. The guy wasn't pitching batting practice. He was throwing heat. They knock 'em out. Wow.:Q

If he leaves his starter in till the ninth, he loses. If he brings the reliever in at the 8th, he loses.

You can't do anything about the Yankee mystique.

"running on fumes" or not, schilling wanted to go back in and would have been better than putting kim in. and putting kim back in during game 5 made me realize brenly doesn't deserve this title. i would love to see the dbacks win, as schilling and johnson and grace and the others have played really well and deserve a title before they retire, but if kim throws one more pitch in this series than someone needs to have his job taken away.

~erik <-- very irritated watching one pitcher blow 2 leads.

Game 4 I would have left Curt in until the 8th inning and then put Kim in for the final inning. Does anyone else think that Kim really a great pitcher, or is it his delivery that throws off batters until they get a few "looks" at his pitching style? In my opinion it is his style and I actually told my wife during his first appearance Wednesday night that the Yankees would start hitting his pitches after they get used to his delivery.

It's Steinbrenner's fault for buying Mariano Rivera.

Dude is a relieving animal!! He's freakin' amazing!

Go D'Backs!

It was ridiculous to put Kim out there for the tenth in Game 4 after he gave up the game-tying HR. But it was even more ridiculous to let him pitch in Game 5 after taking the loss and blown save and throwing 62 PITCHES the previous day. Mike Morgan should have gotten the save in Game 5. I hope Kim doesn't see any more action in this series.
