If the "greatest" generation was so great, how come they raised such horrible kids?

The World War II folks are sometimes called "the greatest generation", because they had a bunch of things to overcome, and they won the war.

By contrast, the baby boomers are often called whiny, selfish, etc.

My question is, if the baby boomers were raised by the greatest generation, and the boomers really are that bad, doesn't that mean the greatest generation isn't very great? Seems to me that your children are your most important legacy.

b/c life was so much easier? My parents tell me all the time how it was in the "old" country...

well I'm too busy doing other stuff to pay attention : P. j/k. I think a lot of it has to do with the amount of wealth in the country, different set of values..i.e. money over family time

Because they wanted to give their children everything they didn't have. In doing so, they spoiled them. It was a noble deed gone horribly wrong.

I'm unique, I am a post baby boomer born to parents from the pre baby boomer generation. My father fought in WWII. Both my parents lived through the depression.

They spoiled four kids before me, and had already learned that lesson. I wasn't spoiled, I was neglected.

Just finished some work on a basement remodel. The owners asked us to patch some walls while we were there. Kid's playroom and bedroom had fair size holes holes poked in the drywall. Why, I don't know, but the parents don't punish the kids for it.

Any time a kid is reprimanded at school, the parents come down on the teachers instead of their precious angels. There's definitely a 'left lean' to discipline these days.

yea, now we have leaders that ducked service, and a president that spent his time defending the mid west and instead of fighting in vietnam. and he couldn't even be bothered to show up for duty most of the time let alone atleast set foot on enemy territory like gore. we have chicken hawks like limbaugh who spend their time calling others unpatriotic when he weaseled out of service by saying he had an ass pimple. his father with the same ass pimple served in ww2. funny how that works huh.

WTF ever.... kids today are so freaking whiney I want to strangle them. My parents on the other hand (part of the baby boom) are two of the hardest working people I know. THey worked HARD for every house and cent they have. My dad has been a public school teacher for 35years and my mom was in the Army for 15 years in the Nurse corps.

Fvcking kids today don't even know what respect is.... :|

I've said kids these day (hey I'm only 25) are worse, but really I think although some things they do are freaking annoying I don't think they are necessarily worse. I do hate teenagers, but then I know I was just as bad when I was one.

Overall I don't think today's generation is "worse" than in the past.

i think the problem today is that kids are having kids. how many times have you seen on the news about a 12yr old or 14 yr old girl pregnant. how in the fvck is a 12 yr old girl going to raise a child?

You think this is anything new? Teenagers (even young teenagers) have always been sexually active, the only difference is the amount of social stigma attached to their actions and the reflection on their family.
