My guess is that what will happen is the economy will stabilize at a lower average level than before. There will be fewer, lower paying jobs, people will live in lower quality housing and have less money to spend. There will be more poor and homeless people. But for many people with a good education and a decent job, not much will change. Some things might even get cheaper.

I would move somewhere with a smaller wage gap, since the USA has grown quite a large wealth gap. Germany looks pretty good. So does Norway and Australia. Just depends which ones economy is doing better. Hell even Canada isn't so bad.

I would not recommend Norway. Like Sweden, they have a huge problem with Arab immigration. It is estimated that more than 50% of Oslo's population will be immigrants, mostly of Arab origin, by 2030. Immigrants bring their custom from the home country with them, such as bombings and terrorism:

I'd probably shoot for Germany since that's where the American dream pretty much lives now a days ironically.

We had recessions prior to World War I and II, and our post-war economies would boom. This taught us one of the most important lessons of economics; if there is a recession, invade Germany. There's profit in it.

So you might not be the only one "shooting" for Germany.

Illegals are in the country because there LOTs and LOTs of people willing to give them jobs. The rhetoric would have you believe that 95% of America hates illegals and wants them all to leave, well that's not the case cause they are being hired and paid by lots of people. Farmers, restaurants, rich folk who need their lawn mowed, and many more. And the argument that they are taking jobs away from Americans is largely bullshit. Fact is you hardly see any Americans applying for these manual labor positions, it's not like they have 10 or 20 candidates lined up 4 or 5 of whome are Americans and they choose the illegals of them.

A slow drawn out decline IS different from "going belly up" you have to admit. I don't think America will ever see the hayday of years past, think the Internet bubble of the late 90s. I think this IS the dusk of their economic reign. However their decline will likely take decades to play out.
