I'm not an expert at alcholic beverages but if Vodka burns as it goes down, then one would be able to classify it as 'cheap' correct?

I don't think it's a matter of burning.. it's the taste. Smooth goes in taste, not how it goes down. My experience is cheap alcohol reacts a lot faster in your body, so it's easier to get a hangover. Grey Goose for me has a much slower effect than say Smirnoff...

How could beer be any better? It's bitter and nasty, well most beer I've had.
Ditto. Most good hard alcohols don't burn and go down smoothly. You generally also pay more for that pleasure. Cheap doesn't necessarilly mean it burns, but they usually go hand-in-hand. Expensive doesn't necessarilly it won't burn, but it usually means that.Originally posted by: JulesMaximus
Gerenally speaking yes.

everyone that's raving about grey goose is a victim of advertising and a nice (expensive) label. when they do blind taste tests, the best tasting vodka is often not grey goose, but actually smirnoff. and since most of you aren't professional taste testers (myself included), i doubt you'd be able to tell much of a diff between grey goose and smirnoff, so you might as well save some money.
however if you take really cheap vodka (fleischmanns and other such shite), you can tell the difference. however, if run it through a brita filter (3-6 times), it'll be much nicer, almost at smirnoff levels (myth busters, any1?).
btw, a delicious mix:
skyy melon vodka
cranberry juice
tastes EXACTLY like a cherry jolly rancher. mmmm...
