alcohol burns, its how it works.
So you pour it over some ice and let it get cold and dilute a bit. If it still burns, spend more.

My friend said that drinking good vodka was like drinking air. So yeah, I guess if it burns it's no good.

Gerenally speaking yes. Although, there are some vodkas that are 100 proof and they do burn regardless.
I only drink vodka in martinis...and I use very very little vermouth. The key to a good martini is starting with a quality vodka (Grey Goose is my favorite, although I generally drink Kettle One), a spritz of vermouth (I keep an olive oil spritzer filled with vermouth for martinis) and shaking it in a shaker full of ice until the sides of the shaker are frosty. Immediately strain into a cocktail glass, drop in a rinsed olive and enjoy!

I've tried virtually all the high end vodkas but nothing beats Chopin.
That is so wrong I don't know where to even begin... Smirnoff is the vodka that burns my throat & the little more expensive Ketel One does not. Obvious difference.Originally posted by: brikis98
everyone that's raving about grey goose is a victim of advertising and a nice (expensive) label. when they do blind taste tests, the best tasting vodka is often not grey goose, but actually smirnoff. and since most of you aren't professional taste testers (myself included), i doubt you'd be able to tell much of a diff between grey goose and smirnoff, so you might as well save some money.
however if you drink really cheap vodka (fleischmanns and other such shite), you can tell the difference. solution: run it through a brita filter (3-6 times), and it'll be much nicer, almost at smirnoff levels (myth busters, any1?).

btw, a delicious mix:
skyy melon vodka
cranberry juice
tastes EXACTLY like a cherry jolly rancher. mmmm...

You don't know what you're talking about. I can definetly taste a difference between smirnoff and greygoose or any other vodka for that matter. If I order a grey goose/tonic, I can tell if they use something else or if they are in fact using grey goose. And I dont think grey goose's labels are nice or fancy. I've seen PLENTY of more fancy and well designed eye catching labels on bottles of vodka.

Sure, that's what everyone thinks until they actually do a blind taste test.

Man, I took a shot of some no-name crappy (warm, room temperature) vodka once... that did not go down so well.
You know whats good though? (off the topic of vodka)- Bailey's. Call it a guilty pleasure . Not the hardest drink by any means but its smooooth.

And I can definetly tell when it's not grey goose. And Im not trying to brag about any special powers I have, I think anybody could recognize the taste difference.

And I suppose you verify everytime afterward? I mean, you say anybody could do it, yet why does Smirnoff win blind taste tests?

You need to switch to beer
How could beer be any better? It's bitter and nasty, well most beer I've had.
But it doesn't burn. And it doesn't assault your senses...
