When I was single I spent around $150 every two weeks on food. I bought bulk steak and chicken and seperated them into individual portions and put them in freezer bags. Bought cans of vegetables for dinner veggies and potatoes and brown rice. For lunch was a tuna sandwich and soup. Breakfast was either cereal or breakfast lean pockets.

I live alone and am single.
I always have at least rice, steak, burgers, spaghetti noodles and sauce, and usually lots of frozen foods at home, as well as those Zatarans mixes for Gumbo and Jambalaya. It's been a long time since I've gone to the store to buy food, so I am pretty much out of it .... but usually I keep my frige/freezer and my standalone freezer pretty well stocked. I like to grill ....

i probably spend $20/week on food for basics like milk, bread, lunchmeat, frozen veggies, and maybe something on sale, but once every 2 months or so I go spend ~$100 at Costco and stock up on tuna, chicken, soups etc. So if you averaged that out, I'd say like $130/month on food in my apartment. This doesnt count going out and eating, going out to the bars, or buying any alcohol.

I defrosted my fridge 2 years ago and still have not plugged it back in. My utility provider (ConEd) keeps sending me letters urging me to turn off the gas b/c I never use it. I eat out a lot.

I have virtually nothing, I am perfectly happy with eating bread and cheese for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
And I wonder if I am just a tight wad, or if that's all guys.

guess that works when you don't get visitors.

I think it's all a matter of whether or not you actually COOK. I've found that since I started cooking and learning what I can and can't make with numerous things I have more things in my cupboards. For instance, I can go to a store and buy things that I know are at a good price and just come up with something to cook from it, whereas before I ate cereal for most meals at home.

Now I have chicken, various frozen vegetables, ground beef, and salmon in my freezer. I have things like cream of mushroom soup, tuna, pasta, pasta sauce, beans, a few chicken/hamburger/tuna helpers in the cupboard, etc. Much more than before.

Oh yah, forgot to factor that in too.. Alcohol. It has nutrional value, although not much, and as such is stil considered a foodstuff as well as a controlled substance.

The reason I said you should calculate all the value of the food you spend is especially important when doing a budget even if you didn't spend the money because someone else bought it for you. Just because someone else bought it this time doesn't mean it will happen next time unless you can garauntee it. If it ever becomes not the case of you not spending your money then the budget needs to be redone again.

Really though, Zyto, do you go to bars or buy some beer/alcohol? Buy vitamen supplements? Snack foods at a vending machine or a ball game or something? If you really looked at your spending habits and tracked every penny over a few months you might surprise yourself on how much you really DO spend.

Seriously though, from your eating habits, you are not eating healthy at all and it will eventually catch up to you.

Ummm.... I waste money like it's going out of style, and even at my height I couldn't spend money like that on food. Tell me you're providing for a whole family or something. If not, I'm assuming you eat filet for every meal.

I probably spend about $125-$150 a week on food. And no, no filet, lots of burgers, pizza, mexican, chinese, etc.

If I had only 2500 calories a day I would starve.

Just as bad as just a box of Ramen. If you're feeling special, then it's Cup-o-noodles.

I keep a decent amount, but then again I almost always cook for myself. Saves money.

I put everything in my fridge. Like bread and tortilla wraps and nuts.

I load up the freezer with frozen foods like lasagna because they last a long time (I don't eat them often).

Why? Because it saves money. Every time you open your fridge, air escapes and it has to work more to recool. But if it's full, it doesn't. Shaves a some bucks off the electric bill.

Bread also lasts longer this way. You can buy bulk when it's on sale and have enough for about a month.

Let me guess, you're 6-1 110 lbs with yellow toenails and scurvy from lack of nutrition.

BTW, I spend about $10/day on food, or 300/month since I get a salad every day at the local supermarket for lunch.
