Secondly, its not of their choosing, the American company that hired then (directly/indirectly) wants some friendly names that they can pronounce or say easily, not because they want to disguise.
Thirdly, only cheap people who do business with cheap companies get calls from Indian call centers, or maybe you are Indian or doing business directly with Indian companies, mainly financial organization. So its your fault in the first place that you are getting calls from India. Myself, or anyone I know never get calls from Indian call center.

And yet they will still keep calling. Doing such things only seems to serve the one being annoyed and never helps.
My wife tried various things for a while to her own amusement but did nothing to prevent them from trying over and over.

Personally I don't answer the phone if I don't recognize the number, I just hate it when they let my voice mail run it's entire 2 minutes with them not saying anything but the sounds of office noises in the background. I don't know what purpose they think that will serve them.

They aren't necessarily fake. I've met a number of Indians now whose christian parents gave them boring english-language names. Legacy of colonization and whatnot.
