Well, we already know a good chunk of white Americans are blind ignorant racists. we already know that the majority of police come from that same group of people and carry the mindset with them to work. This really isnt new.
What we need is a solution, and people keep claiming the federal government needs to step up and do something. But right now the federal government is run by either racists, or cowards who would much rather appeal to their racist voting block than do whats right for America as a whole.
My only shining light is maybe with Donald out of office there will be a culture shift in D.C. and maybe something positive might eventually come around. There is no guarantee of that. Honestly I dont know what to do about it. I really dont see solutions to many of our problems.
Some things that can be done in terms of police reform: a federal standard for training along with yearly testing/retesting. Training includes bias awareness training, de-escalation training, and situational response training.
A federal watch dog specifically for reporting bad cops who also keeps a national database of police interactions/infractions/discipline with a three strikes you are out rule and public reporting of findings. That same database is used as part of background checks.
End to qualified immunity.
Federal requirement for body and mics with benefit of the doubt laws siding with suspects when they aren't used or there is a malfunction.
A separate trained personnel for domestic or mental calls and wellness checks.
This last one is controversial but necessary; the ending of police unions. Their compensation should be directly tied to what the people in their community think.
