I do fine with my KB&M. The first day I played BF2, I either couldn't figure out how to get the chopper off the runway or crashed it into something as soon as I did. Now I can master choppers, with just a couple of days practicing on my own created server. Jets are way too fast for me though. I don't see how you can even accomplish anything? Nor can I get the timing right to lower to the helipad and get ammo with a jet like I can with a chopper.

It just takes practice with jets. Remember that jets don't have an out-of-boundary area until you get off the entire map. That gives you more time to plan your approach. It's also very helpful to be in a squad where they can direct you where they want you to strike. You can just fly high only looking at the map and then dive down at your targets if you know where they are already.

Now, searching for targets is a different story. It's much harder and very risky since you have to fly low enough to be targeted by stingers and such. Not to mention you get spotted by other planes easier. Either way, unless you happen to be lined up with a target that you're looking for, you're probably not going to get it on that pass because you'll have to adjust too quickly.

You mean you don't get the "you will be shot in 10 seconds" sound and message when you're in a jet unless you go off of the "world" (entire level)? That's cool, I never knew that.

How long did it take you guys to master jets? A Day? Week? Month? (providing you don't have any pilot experience to start with.)

Can anyone with pilot experience describe how BF2 planes relate to real-life planes? Is it a pretty damn good simulation (controls and handling)?

I have a tendency to use the afterburners when I shouldn't. Sort of like sprinting on the ground when you just want to go.

Jet's are kind of hard to fly, and won't be very effective attackers without very precise timing, but they are very fast, making it easy to dodge missles. Attack choppers, on the other hand, can do insane damage, but are easy to take down. Which one should i master?

ANyways, I can fly the choppers like a savage with ym mouse, but if I even attempt to fly a jet, yikes.

I'm the same as you.

Chopper = Excellent

Plane, in BF2 anyways = Good Night

The biggest thing you want to learn to use with jets is using the gun. About half the time I can blow up APCs in one run using the gun, and just about any smaller vehicle most of the time. An effective gunner can pretty much double his kills during a good game.

Another thing to learn is that your bombs will be much more accurate if you fly high and then dive down on whatever you're going to hit (dive bombing).

The F-15/SU-30 are much more vulnerable to being shot down by fighters, but if I have one with air superiority, it's almost assured that I will take first place in the game for points, and most likely win the game. Their bombs are very destructive and I usually get 70-90 points flying one when I'm not harassed.

Same thing here....but I also enjoy being the gunner for a good chopper pilot...

With kb&m I seem to have better control over the planes than the choppers.

Dunno why. I've only flown offline though.

I just ignore the jets. They have no bearing on the rest of the game. Jets are a seperate game, where they duke it out with one another in the air. As a foot soldier, jets don't matter one bit. They'll never target you, and they'll never hit you. I consider jets inconsequential. The pilots rarely get over 100 points in a game, even if they're good, and they just shoot each other and occasionally shoot up helicopters.

Helicopters I just leave to others to fly. I don't usually get on board. They're big targets for everyone on the map. I've seen someone fly an attack helicopter once that was just incredible. He could dodge any missile. He'd dive towards the ground sideways, then turn upside down and do a loop, and the missles would go crazy and miss him. I thought upside down-ness killed helicopters, but this guy was like, the man.

My point was, not everyone can be a pilot, just like in real life. I don't need to be a pilot. It's not in the cards for me. Like I said, most of the time the game in the air is entirely seperate from the one on the ground.

You havent played a game with great pilots in it. I played 7 games last night as a commander and I lost just one of the games (7-1). Air superiority gave us the advantage. Between the jet pilots that I had at my command and the choppers, the other team just didnt have a chance. I would have the jets take out the AA turrests close to the flags and then move the choppers in for the capture.

On the hands of a great pilot jets are great enemy vehicle killer.

It's true. I've stopped entire advances when flying when a squad leader or commander gives me the right instructions. That's the key though...air superiority. If you're on a map with the F-15 and F-18, if the F-18 can tie up both of the enemy's planes, the F-15 can be one of the single most effective weapons on the map.

I wish that they had used the BF1942C helicopter model in BF2. They were much easier to fly in Desert Combat.
