If you could get Monster cables the same price as Monoprice cables

Thread question.

I work at Best Buy so I (And I alone, don't PM me to get you stuff) can get cables for a pretty nice discount, especially since I work in home theater.

I've heard of people tearing apart HDMI cables from Monster and finding weak solder points. I know digital cables carry a digital signal so it doesn't make a difference if they're Monster or Jose's Burrito brand.

My real question is whether they're worth the $15-20 extra over these cables:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/ol...oduct&id=1156607167930

I've purchased Rocketfish optical cables and coaxial cables in the near past and I have to say, the quality of the cable, the mesh shield and quality of the sound has been stellar.

My question is whether or not Monoprice cables are better when you're spending budget money.

And yes I know speaker cable is important to get a good brand of. I have Monster Cable Navajo XP speaker wire.

Where did you hear that? Provided the wire is oxygen free it won't matter at all(sound quality wise) what brand you bought.

As for the cables...I don't quite understand what costs what to you. But assuming they are all the same cost, it really doesn't matter which you pick. The Monster and Rocketfish probably would have a bit higher build quality. However, in a digital cable that rarely makes for increased performance.

Short answer, unless they pay you to get the cables, avoid Monster Cable.

I wouldn't buy Monster Cables just because they are so overpriced for the rest of the population. I wouldn't give that company my money to continue price gouging the crap out of joe blow consumer.

If you can get them at the same price, ten sure. They're perfectly good cables, they're just ridiculously overpriced. Anything over what monoprice (or others) charge though is pointless as the quality is no better.

Absolutely I would. Monster has very well made cables. It's the price that most people have a problem with. If you can get them for cheap then go for it as they are much better quality than what monoprice has.

I would get them at the same price. They are somewhat better quality - depending on which cable you're talking about.

As mentioned above, I despise Monster for the misinformation and deceptive marketing. I have no problem with their quality.

I would have no problem purchasing Monster cables if the prices are inline with their competitors mainly due to the fact that most electronic stores carry them. B&M purchase over online purchase.

I would pay 25% more for them, but that's it. I think Monster has done a very good job of proving that its cables are indeed higher quality than the usual. The problem is that higher quality cables don't matter that much beyond a certain threshold (which Monoprice generally meets).

If you can get a 6ft HDMI Monster cable for $12.52, then yeah, go for it. Otherwise get the cable at Monoprice. I bought 2 for my parent's new Samsung 5271 LCD. You'll see NO difference (performance wise) between the Monoprice cable I selected and the Monster cable. You could use the extra money you saved on something that WILL make a difference though, like a new Blu-Ray player (Panasonic BD50 would be nice).

No, I wouldn't support such a racket and moreover I would be embarassed if anyone saw them in my home and feel compelled to explain that I'm not actually a mooncalf.

For HDMI cables, I'd definitely bite.

For anything else (component, rca, coax, etc) you could buy yourself a nice crimper at partsexpress, some belden cable, and make your own a/v-phile quality stuff to exact lengths and recover the price of the parts in the money saved after the first two sets of cables (over monster that is)...

Sure, if I needed one and they were the same price, I would prefer to get it in my hands the same day from a local vendor instead of having to wait a week for monoprice.

You can say that again. I just ordered a 25ft HDMI cable from monoprice that took 6 days to get. I paid $42 for it though, and would love to know what BB would have charged me.

as ar as BB goes, i like the Acoustic Research cables. the quality is there, and the price is a little more reasonable. however, BB doesn't carry AR cables that would expose the Monster gouging.

Depends on what brand HDMI cable. Given that the M series (ooooo, M series) 16' cable is listed at $247, I think you made the right decision. But hey, if you REALLY like Monster cables, you better get to Best Buy fast, as this is the SALE price.

Hey man, that is one AWESOME cable! And to think, two of these cables cost more than a PS3. I mean that is how good these cables are.

Yeah, I bought a 30 foot hdmi cable from Monoprice for my projector. God knows what it would have cost from Monster - probably the price of another projector.

Oxygen-free is irrelevant. Makes no difference at all.
Great read from a man who knows more about speakers and stereo equipment than most anyone

If would be "fun" (in a geek sort of way) to put together a HT using things like Monster Cables, Bose stereo and Sony TV versus things like Monoprice cables, ????? stereo and Vizio TV.

Then compare the price versus quality.

And, yes, I am bored right now.

I've read that site before. I agree that it doesn't make a difference in conductivity initially. However, if that wire begins to corrode(which there have been pictures of generic home depot wire doing) then it will make a difference.

I am not advocating buying amazingly super-duper speaker wire. There is quality speaker wire out there that won't corrode for very very cheap.
